Douglas Kmiec
Douglas William Kmiec (; born September 24, 1951) is an American legal scholar, author, and former U.S. ambassador. He is the Caruso Family Chair and Professor of Constitutional Law at Pepperdine University School of Law. Kmiec came to prominence during the 2008 United States presidential election when, although a Republican, he endorsed Democrat Barack Obama. In July 2009, he was nominated by President Obama to serve as U.S. Ambassador to Malta. He was confirmed by the Senate and served for close to two years as ambassador to Malta. He resigned his post effective May 31, 2011. Education and career Kmiec received his undergraduate degree with honors from Northwestern University in 1973 and his Juris Doctor (J.D.) from the University of Southern California in 1976. Tomasz Kmiec (kuh-MICH; born July 31, 1981) is a Polish-Canadian politician who serves the Member of Parliament for Calgary Shepard in the House of Commons of Canada. Additionally, he is the Conservative Party of Canada's National Caucus Chair, and oversees meetings of the parliamentary caucuses of His Majesty's Loyal Opposition. Early life and education Tom Kmiec was born in Gdańsk, Poland. His family immigrated to Canada and settled in Quebec. Kmiec was raised in Quebec and went through the French education system as part of the Bill 101 reforms. He is, hence, fluently bilingual in both of Canada's official languages. Edward Urban Kmiec (, ; June 4, 1936 – July 11, 2020) was an American prelate of the Roman Catholic Church. He served as the 13th bishop of the Diocese of Buffalo in New York from 2004 to 2012. Kmiec previously served as an auxiliary bishop for the Diocese of Trenton from 1982 to 1992 and as bishop of the Diocese of Nashville in Tennessee from 1992 to 2004 Biography Edward Kmiec was born in Trenton, New Jersey, on June 4, 1936.
