Klymaxx
Klymaxx is an American all-female pop/ R&B band from Los Angeles, California. The band's classic lineup consisted of Bernadette Cooper, Lorena Porter Shelby, Cheryl Cooley, Robbin Grider, Lynn Malsby, and Joyce "Fenderella" Irby. History Klymaxx was created and formed in 1979 by Bernadette Cooper (producer/drummer/vocals); the other original members included Lorena "Lungs" Porter Shelby (lead vocals), Cheryl Cooley (guitar), Robbin Grider (keyboards/guitar), and Lynn Malsby (keyboards). Joyce "Fenderella" Irby (bass/vocals/producer) joined the band later, before the recording of their debut album. The women developed their core sound in rehearsal, and continued with Bernadette Cooper becoming the band's figurehead. Their debut album ''Never Underestimate the Power of a Woman'' was released in 1981, and their second album was '' Girls Will Be Girls''. Meeting In The Ladies Room
''Meeting in the Ladies Room'' is the third studio album by Klymaxx, released in 1984. In the US, it reached No. 18 on the ''Billboard'' 200 and No. 9 on the R&B album chart. It is certified Platinum. Klymaxx gained airplay on MTV, VH1 and BET with the release of their single "The Men All Pause" that reached No. 5 on the R&B chart, No. 80 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 and No. 9 on the ''Billboard'' Hot Dance Club Play chart. The title track reached No. 59 on the Hot 100 and No. 4 on the R&B chart. The third single, " I Miss You", reached No. 5 on the Hot 100, No. 11 on the R&B chart and No. 1 on the adult contemporary chart and was certified gold. Joyce Irby
Joyce "Fenderella" Irby (born July 16, 1954) is an American singer, songwriter, bass guitarist and producer. She was the co-lead vocalist of the all-female band Klymaxx. Irby has also worked with artists such as Lloyd, Troop, Sammie, The SOS Band and Shalamar. Career In her teenage years, she used to stand outside concert arenas in the South with her bass around her neck, playing on loading ramps. There she was first noticed by George Clinton. He used to make her sit with him after concerts, encouraging her by listening to her play. George Clinton/P-Funk Collective She originally signed on with George Clinton's P-Funk Collective as "Fenderella". While she never featured on any Funkadelic/George Clinton albums, she considers him her lifetime friend and mentor. SOLAR (acronym for Sound of Los Angeles Records) was an American record label founded in 1977 by Dick Griffey, reconstituted out of Soul Train Records only two years after it was founded with '' Soul Train'' television show host and creator Don Cornelius.
