Klaus Hoffmann
Klaus Hoffmann (born 26 March 1951, Berlin) is a German singer, songwriter and actor. Career Klaus Hoffmann started his career as a singer-songwriter during the late 1960s in the alternative Berlin club culture. After travelling to Afghanistan in 1969, he began training as an actor at the Berlin Max-Reinhardt-Schule für Schauspiel. Since 1974, Hoffmann has starred in several renowned theatre and television productions. He became famous for his portrayal of Edgar Wibeau in the 1976 film adaptation of Ulrich Plenzdorfs ''Die neuen Leiden des jungen W.'', for which performance he won several German film awards. While working as an actor, Hoffmann continued to pursue a career as a singer-songwriter. He released his first album in 1974 and has since recorded more than 30 albums. Ulrich Plenzdorf
Ulrich Plenzdorf (; 26 October 1934 – 9 August 2007) was a German author and dramatist. Life Born in Berlin, Plenzdorf studied Philosophy in Leipzig, but graduated with a degree in film. He found work at DEFA. He became famous in both East and West Germany for his socially critical work titled ''"Die neuen Leiden des jungen W."'' Written in the jargon of the GDR-youth of the 1970s, it details the tragic story of a young man and his attempt to break free from his stifling middle class environment, drawing parallels between his own life and that of the protagonist in Goethe's work ''The Sorrows of Young Werther (Die Leiden des jungen Werther)'' (1774). From 2004 to 2007, Plenzdorf was a guest lecturer at the Deutsches Literaturinstitut in Leipzig. He died near Berlin of undisclosed causes, aged 72. ''Die neuen Leiden des jungen W.'' (''The New Sufferings of Young W.'') is an analytic collage-style novel (montage novel) and play by Ulrich Plenzdorf. History Plenzdorf wrote ''Die neuen Leiden des jungen W.'' using the East German (DDR) youth's slang of the 1970s as a societal critique. It tells the story of a young man, who wants to escape from his small middle class environment. Reading Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's '' Sorrows of Young Werther'', he discovers similarities between himself and the book's protagonist. The debut performance was on 18 May 1972 in Halle (Saale) with Reinhard Straube in the main role. It was a big success in the DDR. Subsequently it was also successfully performed in West Germany (BRD). In 1976 the play was made into a film in West Germany by Eberhard Itzenplitz. Hildegard Frieda Albertine Knef (; 28 December 19251 February 2002) was a German actress, voice actress, singer, and writer. She was billed in some English-language films as Hildegard Neff or Hildegarde Neff. Early years Hildegard Knef was born in Ulm in 1925. Her parents were Hans Theodor and Friede Augustine Knef. Her father, a decorated First World War veteran, died when she was only six months old, and her mother moved to Berlin and worked in a factory. Knef began studying acting at age 14 in 1940. Harald Juhnke () (born Harry Heinz Herbert Juhnke, 10 June 1929 – 1 April 2005), was a German actor, comedian, and singer. Life and career Juhnke was born in Berlin-Charlottenburg. His father was a police officer and his mother came from a family of bakers. He grew up in the working-class district of Gesundbrunnen in Berlin. His first stage appearance was in 1948. In 1950, he was hired by the theater in Neustrelitz. In the following years, he worked in several other theaters, including the Volksbühne in Berlin.
