Klangspuren
Klangspuren, also Klangspuren Schwaz, subtitled Tiroler Festival für Neue Musik, is an annual festival for contemporary music in Schwaz in Tyrol, founded in 1994. The title literally translates to "traces of sound". It commissioned around 200 orchestral and ensemble compositions as of 2020. The artistic director is Reinhard Kager. History The Klangspuren festival was founded, dedicated to contemporary music and avant-garde music, in Schwaz, in 1994 by Thomas Larcher and Maria-Luise Mayr. The festival commissioned around 200 orchestral and ensemble works as of 2020, including compositions by Georg Friedrich Haas, Helmut Lachenmann, György Kurtág, Johannes Maria Staud, Olga Neuwirth, Beat Furrer and Pierre-Laurent Aimard. Reinhard Kager
Reinhard Kager (born 2 April 1954) is an Austrian philosopher, journalist and music promoter who also worked as a music producer. Career Born in Graz, Kager studied philosophy, sociology and music at the University of Graz and at the Kunstuniversität Graz, from 1973. From 1986, he worked as a lecturer at the Philosophical Institute of the University of Graz and taught aesthetic theory, sociology of art and media theory. With his book ''Herrschaft und Versöhnung'' (1988) he wrote an introduction to the thinking of Theodor W. Adorno. From 1995 to 1998, he researched, supported by an APART scholarship from the Austrian Academy of Sciences, on the subject "Musik zwischen Tradition und Fortschritt" (Music between tradition and progress). Matthias Osterwold
Matthias Osterwold (born 1950) is a German culture manager. Life Born in Hamburg, Osterwold studied sociology, economics and urban research in Hamburg as well as musicology in Berlin. In 1983, he was one of the founders of the "Freunde Guter Musik Berlin e.V.," an organization for the promotion of Neue Musik and is on its board of directors. Since 1994, he has been an elected member of the interest group "Rat für die Künste Berlin". Between 1999 and 2001, he was music curator at the ZKM Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe. Ensemble Modern
Ensemble Modern is an international ensemble dedicated to performing and promoting the music of modern composers. Formed in 1980, the group is based in Frankfurt, Germany, and made up variously of about twenty members from numerous countries. History Ensemble Modern was founded in 1980 by members of the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie. From the beginning, the ensemble chose to organize itself democratically. There is no artistic director or chief conductor; instead, all projects, productions and financial matters are decided and supported by the musicians directly. Thomas Larcher
Thomas Larcher (born 16 September 1963, in Innsbruck) is an Austrian composer and pianist. Biography and Work Thomas Larcher completed his studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts, Vienna under Heinz Medjimorec and Elisabeth Leonskaja (piano), and Erich Urbanner (composition). He became well known as a pianist whilst at university, focusing particularly in the area of contemporary music. Larcher has performed under conductors such as Claudio Abbado, Pierre Boulez, Dennis Russell Davies and Franz Welser-Möst, and worked closely with composers such as Heinz Holliger, Olga Neuwirth and Isabel Mundry. Schwaz () is a city in the Austrian state of Tyrol. It is the administrative center of the Schwaz district. Schwaz is located in the lower Inn valley. Sir Harrison Birtwistle (15 July 1934 – 18 April 2022) was an English composer of contemporary classical music best known for his operas, often based on mythological subjects. Among his many compositions, his better known works include ''The Triumph of Time'' (1972) and the operas ''The Mask of Orpheus'' (1986), ''Gawain'' (1991), and '' The Minotaur'' (2008). The last of these was ranked by music critics at ''The Guardian'' in 2019 as the third-best piece of the 21st-century. Sir Peter Maxwell Davies (8 September 1934 – 14 March 2016) was an English composer and conductor, who in 2004 was made Master of the Queen's Music. As a student at both the University of Manchester and the Royal Manchester College of Music, Davies formed a group dedicated to contemporary music called the New Music Manchester with fellow students Harrison Birtwistle, Alexander Goehr, Elgar Howarth and John Ogdon. Adriana Hölszky (born 30 June 1953) is a Romanian-born German music educator, composer and pianist who has been living in Germany since 1976. Biography Hölszky was born in Bucharest. In the years 1959-1969 she studied piano with Olga Rosca-Berdan at the music school in Bucharest. In 1972, she began to study composition with Ştefan Niculescu as parallel to piano studies at the Bucharest Music Conservatory. In 1976 she moved with her family to Germany.
