Kjell Håkonsen
Kjell Håkonsen (23 December 1935 – 18 April 2011) was a Norway, Norwegian harness racing coach and coachman. During his career, he had 5531 starts and won 1094 races. He is best known for having trained and coached Spikeld and Rex Rodney who have achieved many ranks as Norway's best racing horses of all time. He also trained one of Spikeld's sons, Spiker, who is seen as having great potential and is seen as having good breeding stock. Harness Racing
Harness racing is a form of horse racing in which the horses race at a specific gait (a trot or a pace). They usually pull a two-wheeled cart called a sulky, or spider, or chariot occupied by a driver. In Europe, and less frequently in Australia and New Zealand, races with jockeys riding directly on saddled trotters ( in French) are also conducted. A coachman is an employee who drives a coach or carriage, a horse-drawn vehicle designed for the conveyance of passengers. A coachman has also been called a coachee, coachy, whip, or hackman. The coachman's first concern is to remain in full control of the horses (or other similar animals such as mules) and another employee, traditionally a footman, would accompany the coach to handle any circumstances beyond the coachman's control. Spikeld
Spikeld (1993-2017) was a Norwegian trotting horse, from Elding and Spikdona. He was trained by Kjell Håkonsen. The horse's height was 158 cm. It set a best time for a 7-year old horse with a kilometre time of 1:18.6. Spikeld retired in 2006. After his racing career he was active as a breeding stallion.
