Kjartan Slettemark
Kjartan Slettemark (6 August 1932, Naustdal, Norway – 13 December 2008, Stockholm, Sweden) was a Norwegian- Swedish artist. Career He first made a name for himself as an artist with a collage he placed in front of the Parliament of Norway in 1965, titled "From a report from Vietnam: Children are splashed with napalm. Their skin is burnt into black wounds and they die." This work consists of, among other things, a red mouth, an American flag and the figure of a child. It was donated to the National Gallery in Oslo in 1982. He also produced passports (which resembled a Norwegian passport) for the fictional country Kjartanistan. Around 500 were made for persons interested in citizenship. In the mid-1960s Slettemark was a teacher at an art school in Stockholm, and he took Swedish citizenship in 1966. Arts Council Norway Honorary Award
The Arts Council Norway Honorary Award ( no, Norsk kulturråds ærespris) is awarded annually by the Arts Council Norway. The prize is awarded annually to a person who has made a significant contribution to Norwegian art and culture. The prize committee does not solicit nominations and the decision on award is made in closed meeting. Traditionally, no decision basis for the award is announced. The prize is monetary (in 2005 500,000 Kroner). Since the Council's thirtieth anniversary in December 1994, a bronze lion statuette by the sculptor Elena Engelsen has also been awarded. Edith Roger
Edith Roger (born 29 May 1922) is a Norwegian dancer, choreographer and stage director. She was born in Vestby. She made her debut as dancer at Rogaland Teater in 1945. Her debut as stage director was ''Sangen om utysket'' at Nationaltheatret in 1967. She was decorated Knight of the Order of St. Olav in 1985, and was awarded the Arts Council Norway Honorary Award in 2002. In 2010 she received the Hedda Honorary Award. Anne Brown (August 9, 1912March 13, 2009) was an American soprano for whom George Gershwin rewrote the part of "Bess" into a leading role in the original production of his opera ''Porgy and Bess'' in 1935. She was also a radio and concert singer. She settled in Norway in 1948 and later became a Norwegian citizen. Early life and career (1912–1936) A native of Baltimore, Maryland, Annie Wiggins Brown was the daughter of Dr. Harry F. Brown, a physician, and his wife, the former Mary Allen Wiggins. Her father was the grandson of a slave and her mother's parents were of black, Cherokee Indian, and Scottish-Irish origins. She had three sisters, Henrietta, Mamie, and Harriet.
