Kiyevsky Suburban Railway Line, Moscow
The Kiyevsky suburban railway line (russian: Киевское направление Московской железной дороги) is one of eleven suburban lines used for suburban railway connections between Moscow, Russia, and surrounding areas in Moscow Oblast and Kaluga Oblast. The Kiyevsky suburban railway line connects Moscow with the stations in the southwest, in particular, with the towns of Aprelevka, Naro-Fominsk, Balabanovo, Obninsk, Maloyaroslavets, and Kaluga. The stations the line serves are located in Moscow, as well as in the towns of Odintsovo and Naro-Fominsk in Moscow Oblast, and in Borovsky and Maloyaroslavetsky Districts and the city of Kaluga of Kaluga Oblast. The suburban trains have their northeastern terminus at Moscow Kiyevsky railway station. Obninsk
Obninsk (russian: О́бнинск) is a city in Kaluga Oblast, Russia, located on the bank of the Protva River southwest of Moscow and northeast of Kaluga. Population: History The history of Obninsk began in 1945 when the First Research Institute Laboratory "V", which later became known as IPPE (Institute of Physics and Power Engineering) was founded. On June 27, 1954, Obninsk started operations of the world's first nuclear power plant to generate electricity for a power grid. The city was built next to the plant in order to support it. Scientists, engineers, construction workers, teachers and other professionals moved to Obninsk from all over the Soviet Union. Town status was granted to Obninsk on June 24, 1956. Kiyevskaya (Arbatsko–Pokrovskaya Line)
Kiyevskaya (russian: Киевская), named for the nearby Kiyevsky railway station, is a station on the Arbatsko–Pokrovskaya line of the Moscow Metro. Opened in 1953, it is lavishly decorated in the quasi-baroque style that predominated in the early 1950s. The square pylons are faced with white Ural marble and elaborately patterned ceramic tile and the plastered ceiling is decorated with a series of frescoes by various artists depicting life in Ukraine. A large mosaic at the end of the platform commemorates the 300th anniversary of the reunification of Russia and Ukraine. Light comes from a row of hexagonal chandeliers. The architects were L. V. Lile, V. A. Litvinov, M. F. Markovsky, and V. M. Dobrokovsky. Kiyevskaya has no vestibule of its own. Aleksin (russian: Але́ксин) is a town and the administrative center of Aleksinsky District in Tula Oblast, Russia, located northwest of Tula, the administrative center of the oblast.
