KITSAT-1
KITSAT-1 or KITSAT-A (Korean Institute of Technology Satellite) is the first satellite to be launched for the South Korea. Once launched, the satellite was given the nickname "Our Star" ( 우리별). The KITSAT-1 is a low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite with a modular structure. Of the 12 satellites launched by South Korea, KITSAT-1 has the highest altitude. While the KITSAT-1 maintains equilibrium by gravity gradient forces, magnetic torque can be used to control attitude if needed. The forecasted lifespan of the KITSAT-1 was only five years, but communication with the satellite was maintained for 12 years. Since the launch of the KITSAT-1, South Korea has launched an additional 36 satellites. Size The KITSAT-1 is considered to be a small-sized or microsatellite. KITSAT-2
KITSAT-2 ( a.k.a. ''"Uribyol 2", "KITSAT-OSCAR 25", "KO-25" and "KITSAT-B"'') was a South Korean experimental Earth observation microsatellite. KITSAT-2 was South Korea's second satellite and was the first to be developed and manufactured domestically by the Korea Advanced Institute of Science (KAIST). Launch The satellite was launched into orbit on 26 September 1993, at 01:45 UTC, on the 59th flight of the Ariane-40 H10 launch vehicle. The launch took place in the Centre Spatial Guyanais, French Guiana. KITSAT-2 was a South Korean microsatellite that was launched along with SPOT-3. Its mission was very similar to PoSAT-1 (1993-061D). KITSAT-3
KITSAT-3 was a South Korean remote sensing minisatellite which carried MEIS (Multispectral Earth Imaging System) and SENSE (Space ENvironment Scientific Experiment) instruments to low Earth orbit (LEO). Launched on 26 May 1999 by Indian space agency Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), on orbit the satellite was renamed to Uribyol-3. Manufactured by KAIST Satellite Technology Research Center (SaTReC), KITSAT-3 was developed with experience from KITSAT-1 and KITSAT-2 (no heritage to the KITSAT-1 and KITSAT-2 bus) and was the first independently designed South Korean satellite. KAIST Satellite Technology Research Center (SaTReC; ko, 인공위성연구센터), is a university based research center for satellite technology and applications research. TOPEX/Poseidon
TOPEX/Poseidon was a joint satellite altimeter mission between NASA, the U.S. space agency; and CNES, the French space agency, to map ocean surface topography. Launched on August 10, 1992, it was the first major oceanographic research satellite. TOPEX/Poseidon helped revolutionize oceanography by providing data previously impossible to obtain.
