Kishanganj is an assembly constituency in Kishanganj district in the Indian state of Bihar. Overview As per Delimitation of Parliamentary and Assembly constituencies Order, 2008, No 54 Kishanganj Assembly constituency is composed of the following: Kishanganj municipality; Motihara Toluka, Singhia Kulamani, Halamala, Taisa gram panchayats of Kishnaganj community development block; and Pothia CD Block. In 2015 Bihar Legislative Assembly election, Kishanganj will be one of the 36 seats to have VVPAT enabled electronic voting machines. Elections to the Bihar Legislative Assembly were held on 25 February 1957. 1393 candidates contested for the 264 constituencies in the Assembly. There were 54 two-member constituencies and 210 single-member constituencies. State Reorganization Bihar was reduced slightly by the transfer of minor territories to West Bengal in 1956 under States Reorganisation Act, 1956. Rashtriya Janata Dal
The Rashtriya Janata Dal ( RJD; translation: ''National People's Party'') is an Indian political party, based in the states of Bihar, Jharkhand and Kerala. The party was founded in 1997 by Lalu Prasad Yadav. The party's support base has traditionally been Other Backward Classes, Dalits and Muslims and it is considered a political champion of the lower castes. In 2008, RJD received the status of recognized national level party following its performance in north-eastern states. RJD was derecognised as a national party on 30 July 2010. Leading the Mahagathbandhan government with over 165 MLAs, it is currently the single largest political party in Bihar and currently the ruling party in Bihar, with the party's youth leader Tejashwi Yadav as Deputy Chief Minister. Taslimuddin
Mohammed Taslimuddin (4 January 1943 – 17 September 2017) was an Indian politician and a veteran RJD leader. He hailed from the village of Sisauna in the Araria district of Bihar. He started his political career as a sarpanch and was elected to the Bihar Legislative Assembly for the first time in 1969, serving as an MLA eight times. In 1989, he was first elected to the Lok Sabha from the Purnia constituency. He was thrice elected as an MP from the Kishanganj constituency in 1996, 1998 and 2004. He served his final stint as an MP in the 16th Lok Sabha after being elected from the Araria constituency. He died on 17 September 2017 at the age of 74 after being treated for respiratory problems in Chennai, he was laid to rest with state honours on 19 September 2017 at his birthplace located in Sisauna jokihat. Legislative Assembly elections were held in March 1995, to elect the 324 members of the Bihar Legislative Assembly. Janata Dal got a decisive victory in the state; political manoeuvre ensured Lalu Prasad Yadav's victory in the chief ministership. According to political scientist Sanjay Kumar, this election set a different trend in caste based politics of the state of Bihar, as in this election, there were two main political blocs in the state contesting for power. Rafique Alam
Rafique Alam (1 June 1929 – 3 April 2011), popularly known as Alam Saheb, was an Indian politician who had been active in politics for six decades. He was a union minister and a member of the Indian National Congress since the beginning of his political career in early 1960s. Born at Kashibari in Purnea, Bihar on 1 June 1929, Shri Rafique Alam had his education at Russel High School, Kishanganj High School, Purnea, and Aligarh Muslim University. An agriculturist, Shri Rafique Alam was associated with several educational institutions in the Purnea district of Bihar. Shri Rafique Alam was the recipient of the National Integration Award in 1988. Shri Alam began his legislative career as a Member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly from Bahadurganj Vidhan Sabha in 1962 and was a Member of that Assembly from 1962 to 1967, and again representing Kishanganj Vidhan Sabha from 1969 to 1972, 1972 to 77, 1977 to 1980.
