Kirsteen McEwan
Kirsteen Fiona McEwan-Miller (born 20 November 1975) is a retired Scottish badminton player. She reached a career high as world number 8 and has a number of titles to her name. McEwan competed at the 1998 and 2002 Commonwealth Games, and won a mixed team bronze in 2002. Badminton
Badminton is a racquet sport played using racquets to hit a shuttlecock across a net. Although it may be played with larger teams, the most common forms of the game are "singles" (with one player per side) and "doubles" (with two players per side). Badminton is often played as a casual outdoor activity in a yard or on a beach; formal games are played on a rectangular indoor court. Points are scored by striking the shuttlecock with the racquet and landing it within the opposing side's half of the court. Each side may only strike the shuttlecock once before it passes over the net. Play ends once the shuttlecock has struck the floor or if a fault has been called by the umpire, service judge, or (in their absence) the opposing side. The shuttlecock is a feathered or (in informal matches) plastic projectile which flies differently from the balls used in many other sports. Irish Open (badminton)
The Irish International or Irish Open in badminton is an international open held in Ireland since 1902 and is thereby one of the oldest badminton tournaments in the world. It was however interrupted by the two World Wars. This tournament is currently a part of the European Badminton Circuit and takes place at the end of November every year as part of the home nations loop of international tournaments that include the Scottish Open and the Welsh Open in consecutive weeks. The tournament for most part and in recent years has been an International Challenge rated event. The recent exception was in 2012, 2017 & 2018 when the tournament was downgraded to International Series due to funding. Recent editions have been held in the Baldoyle Badminton Centre except for 2007 and 2011 tournaments which were held in Lisburn, Northern Ireland. Michelle Claire Edwards (born 11 July 1974) is a South African badminton player. Career Edwards played badminton at the 2004 Summer Olympics, losing to Aparna Popat of India in the round of 32 in the women's singles. In the women's doubles, Edwards and her partner Chantal Botts were defeated by Nicole Grether and Juliane Schenk of Germany in the round of 32. In 2007, she won 3 medals in badminton at the 2007 All-Africa Games, a gold medal in women's doubles with Chantal Botts, a silver medal in women's singles, and a bronze medal in mixed doubles. She also participated in the Summer Olympic Games of 2008 and 2012 in the women's doubles event. At the 2008 Summer Olympics she competed with Chantal Botts, they lost to Taipei in the first round. Wendy Ann Taylor (born Stamford, Lincolnshire, 1945) is an English artist and sculptor, specialising in permanent, site-specific commissions. According to her website, she 'was one of the first artists of her generation to “take art out of the galleries and onto the streets”'. Her work typically consists of large sculptures which are displayed to appear carefully balanced. Early life and education Wendy Taylor studied from 1963 to 1967 at the Saint Martin's School of Art in London. She gained renown for her many sculptures in the public realm, especially in London.
