Kirriemuir Thistle Football Club are a Scottish junior football club based in Kirriemuir, Angus. Their home ground is Westview Park. Up until the end of the 2005–06 season, the club played in Tayside Division One of the Scottish Junior Football Association's East Region. Kirriemuir, sometimes called Kirrie or the ''Wee Red Toon'' ( gd, An Ceathramh Mòr; IPA: nˈkʰʲɛɾəvmoːɾ, is a burgh in Angus, Scotland. It reaches back to earliest recorded times, when it is thought to have been a major ecclesiastical centre. Later it was identified with witchcraft: some older houses still feature a " witches stane" to ward off evil. In the 19th century, it was a major centre of the jute trade. The playwright J. M. Barrie was born and buried here – a statue of Peter Pan stands in the town square. History The history of Kirriemuir extends back to the early historical period. It appears to have been a centre of ecclesiastical importance. Scottish Junior Football Association
The Scottish Junior Football Association (SJFA) is an affiliated national association of the Scottish Football Association and is the governing body for the junior grade of football in Scotland. The term "junior" refers to the level of football played, not the age of the players. The closest equivalent terminology would be non-League football in England, the difference being that junior football in Scotland was not similarly integrated into its football league system until 2021. Founded in 1886, the SJFA is responsible for disciplinary matters within the grade, certain player registration procedures and organising the annual Scottish Junior Cup. Other league and cup competitions are organised by regional committees. The association headquarters are at Hampden Park, Glasgow, which is Scotland's national football stadium. The Scottish Junior Football Association, East Region is one of two regions of the SJFA, which currently organises the Midlands Football League, Midlands League and local cup competitions. The SJFA was previously split into six regions, but in 2002 the decision was taken to reform into three to try to ensure more games between the top clubs and hence increase their revenues; at that time the East Region was created by amalgamating the former East Junior Football League, East (Lothians), Fife Junior Football League, Fife and Tayside Junior Football League, Tayside Regions.
