Kirkwood Islands
The Kirkwood Islands are a scattered group of reefs and rocks, with one larger island, lying in the central part of Marguerite Bay, south-southwest of the Faure Islands, Antarctica. Kirkwood, New York
Kirkwood is a town in Broome County, New York, United States. The population was 5,495 at the 2020 census. The town is named after James P. Kirkwood, who was an engineer responsible for constructing the local railroad. The town is in the south-central part of the county, southeast of Binghamton. History ''Circa'' 1781, Jonathan Fitch built a gristmill here, becoming the first pioneer settler. The Town of Kirkwood was formed from the town of Conklin in 1859. In 2006 and 2011, parts of the town were damaged when the Susquehanna River overflowed its banks. Joseph Kirkwood House
The Joseph Kirkwood House is a historic house in the village of Bridgeport, Ohio, United States. Originally home to one of the area's oldest families, it was built in the middle of the nineteenth century in a mix of architectural styles. Named a historic site in the 1980s, it has been converted into a health care facility. A native of Delaware, Robert Kirkwood emigrated to present-day Belmont County in 1789 after fighting in the American Revolution; he and his family were among the region's first settlers. The Hotel Kirkwood, also known as the Kirkwood Civic Center Hotel, is a historic building located in downtown Des Moines, Iowa, United States. The building was designed by the Chicago architectural firm of H.L. Stevens & Company and built in 1930. With its completion it became the largest hotel along Fourth Street between Walnut Street and Court Avenue, along Des Moines' "Hotel Row." with It also marked the emergence of the skyscraper hotel in the downtown area. The new hotel replaced a previous Hotel Kirkwood that had been built on the same location in 1862. It was located near Union Station and the Rock Island Depot. Kirkwood Observatory
Kirkwood Observatory is an astronomical observatory owned and operated by Indiana University. It is located in Bloomington, Indiana, United States. It is named for Daniel Kirkwood (1814–1895) an astronomer and professor of mathematics at Indiana University who discovered the divisions of the asteroid belt known as the Kirkwood Gaps. Description Built in 1900 and dedicated on May 15, 1901, the observatory was thoroughly renovated during the 2001–02 academic year. Although the facility is no longer used for research, its original refracting telescope, built by Warner & Swasey Company with a 12-inch (0.3-meter) Brashear objective lens, also received a complete restoration. Kirkwood Hospice is a hospice situated in Dalton, Huddersfield, in West Yorkshire, England. It provides Specialist palliative care for the terminally ill in Kirklees. It was built on the site of the former Mill Hill Isolation Hospital, which closed in 1971 Kirwood hospice provided help and assistance in the formation of the Laura Crane Trust. Finances Kirkwood is dependent on private donations and charitable gifts. To help raise funds for patient care the hospice organises annual activities such as the Midnight Memory Walk, which has raised in excess of £200,000 for patient care over the last three years and an "It's a Knockout" style tournament. Kirkwood is a historic plantation house in Eutaw, Alabama. The house was recorded by the Historic American Buildings Survey in 1934 and by Carol M. Highsmith in 2010.
