Kirkton Bridge Halt Railway Station
Kirkton Bridge Halt railway station or Kirkton Bridge Platform railway station was a request stop on the Fraserburgh and St Combs Light Railway, Aberdeenshire. It was opened in 1904 as Kirton Bridge Halt, later renamed as Kirkton Bridge Platform, on the links to serve the Fraserburgh golf course users and tourists a year after the line's other stations had opened. The 1948 timetable gives the station name as Kirkton Bridge Halt. History The line from Fraserburgh to St Combs itself had opened in 1903 and was the last line built by the Great North of Scotland Railway before it became part of the London and North Eastern Railway. The line was closed in 1965 by the Scottish Region of British Railways as part of the Beeching Cuts. The St Combs line was partly unfenced and it was therefore classified as a light railway and as a result the locomotives had cow catchers. Fraserburgh (; sco, The Broch or ; gd, A' Bhruaich) is a town in Aberdeenshire (unitary), Aberdeenshire, Scotland with a population recorded in the United Kingdom Census 2011, 2011 Census at 13,100. St Combs
St Combs is a small fishing village in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, immediately southwest of Inverallochy. It has existed since at least the 17th century, and takes its name from a church to St Colm (or Columba) that used to exist in the area and was abandoned in 1607. Only a fragment of it remains. The remains of Lonmay Castle are also in the area. The village sits across Loch Strathbeg from Rattray. History There is considerable evidence of local habitation by early man in and around St Combs. Fraserburgh Railway Station
Fraserburgh railway station is a former railway station that once served the town of Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire. History The station was the terminus of the Formartine and Buchan Railway from Aberdeen. The principal traffic was fish, as Fraserburgh was an important herring harbour, as well as dealing in whale products, especially whale oil. The Fraserburgh and St Combs Light Railway opened in 1903, connecting small harbours on the coast from St Combs. These lines, and the station, are now closed, and the site has been redeveloped.
