Kirkley is a district within the town of Lowestoft in the East Suffolk (district), East Suffolk district of the English county of Suffolk. It is located south of the centre of Lowestoft and the town's harbour and Lake Lothing. Kirkley was originally an independent village but is now part of the urban conurbation of Lowestoft. In 1901 the parish had a population of 6465. Kirkley Cemetery
Kirkley Cemetery is a burial ground in the Kirkley area of Lowestoft in Suffolk. Located on London Road South, the cemetery is maintained by Waveney District Council and is open for traditional and Green Burials. The cemetery contains 59 war burials from both World Wars which are registered with and maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. Amongst them are Lance Corporal John Murdoch Dirom who was killed during preparations for Operation Overlord in 1944 aged 22. As the most easterly UK settlement, it is north-east of London, north-east of Ipswich and south-east of Norwich, and the main town in its district. In its latest Ofsted inspection in October 2016, the academy overall was rated as "Good". The school is also home to both the Lowestoft Railway and Lowestoft Ladies Hockey Clubs and the KITE Media Centre History Notley Road School was originally opened on 31 August 1934 and was officially opened once the buildings were complete on 27 July 1938. Boys and girls over the age of 11 were admitted and were taught separately. Notley Road School was renamed the Alderman Woodrow School after John Woodrow the chairman of Lowestoft Education Committee, who implemented progressive educational reforms in Lowestoft. Lil' Chris
Christopher James Hardman (26 August 1990 – 23 March 2015), known by the stage name Lil' Chris, was a British singer-songwriter, actor, and television personality from Lowestoft, England. He came to prominence in 2006 after appearing on the Channel 4 series ''Rock School'', which saw KISS vocalist and bassist Gene Simmons make a rock band at Lil' Chris' school. Later that year he released the single " Checkin' It Out", which charted at number 3, and a self-titled album. In 2008 he hosted his own series, ''Everybody Loves Lil' Chris''. Claud Castleton
Claud Charles Castleton, VC (12 April 1893 – 29 July 1916) was an Australian recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces. Early life Claud Castleton was born in Kirkley, Lowestoft, England. Educated at a council school, he won a scholarship to the grammar school. In 1912 he set off on a long adventure, stopping first at Melbourne, Australia. He worked in various parts of Australia before heading to New Guinea, intending to earn funds for the return journey to England via New Zealand, India and Africa. Matters changed with the outbreak of the First World War; he joined the Australian force formed in New Guinea for the defence of the area in the face of German warship activities. ''Rock School'' (also known as ''Gene Simmons' Rock School'') is a British reality television series starring Gene Simmons from the rock band Kiss, in which he has a short time to turn a class of schoolchildren into a fully fledged rock band, following which they had to perform in a supporting slot for a leading rock band. The Darkness (band)
The Darkness are a British rock band formed in Lowestoft, England. The band consists of Justin Hawkins (lead vocals, lead guitar), his brother Dan Hawkins (rhythm guitar, backing vocals), Frankie Poullain (bass guitar, backing vocals) and Rufus Tiger Taylor (drums, backing vocals). The Darkness came to prominence with the release of their debut album, ''Permission to Land'', in 2003. Backed by the singles "I Believe in a Thing Called Love", "Growing on Me", "Get Your Hands off My Woman", and "Love Is Only a Feeling", the album was certified quadruple platinum in the United Kingdom, with sales of over 1.3 million.
