Kirkby Road
Kirkby Road is a cricket ground in Barwell, Leicestershire. Cricket in Barwell dates to 1807, with cricket being played at Kirkby Road since at least 1913. First-class cricket has been played there three times in 1946 and 1947, with Leicestershire playing Lancashire and Warwickshire in the 1946 County Championship and Worcestershire in the 1947 County Championship. Over half a century later in 2001, major cricket returned to the ground when it played host to a List A one-day match between the Leicestershire Cricket Board (LCB) and the Northamptonshire Cricket Board in the Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy, which was won by the LCB, with their captain Neil Pullen scoring 88. The ground is still used by the village club and adjoins the football ground used by Barwell F.C. Barwell
Barwell is a civil parish and large village in Leicestershire, England, with a population of 8,750 residents, Increasing to 9,022 at the 2011 census, the name literally translates as "Stream of the Boar" and is said to originate from a boar that used to drink from the well near a brook in Barwell. It was originally known as Borewell, but later became "Barwell", the name in use today. The brook is now called the River Tweed, and is a tributary of the River Trent. The village has two churches; Barwell Methodist Church in Chapel Street, and St Mary's Church, Barwell in Church Lane. St. Mary's was built in 1220. A board inside the church lists all of the rectors up to the present day, beginning with ''William'' in 1209. 2002 Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy
The 2002 Cheltenham and Gloucester Trophy was an English limited overs county cricket tournament which was held between 29 August 2001 and 31 August 2002. It was the second Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy, following its change of name from the NatWest Trophy. The tournament was won by Yorkshire who defeated Somerset by 6 wickets in the final at Lord's. Hinckley And Bosworth
Hinckley and Bosworth is a local government district with borough status in south-western Leicestershire, England, administered by Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council. Its only towns are Hinckley, Earl Shilton and Market Bosworth. Villages include Barwell, Burbage, Stoke Golding, Groby, Shackerstone and Twycross. The population of the Borough at the 2011 census was 105,078. As of the 2019 local election, the council is controlled by the Liberal Democrats. Leicestershire County Cricket Club is one of the 18 member clubs of the English County Championship, representing the historic county of Leicestershire. The club was established on 25 March 1879. It has since played first-class cricket from 1894, List A cricket from 1963 and Twenty20 cricket from 2003. Eric Hollies
William Eric Hollies (5 June 1912 – 16 April 1981) was an English cricketer, who is mainly remembered for taking the wicket of Donald Bradman for a duck in Bradman's final Test match innings, in which he needed only four runs for a Test average of 100. Hollies played all his first-class cricket career for Warwickshire, taking 2,323 wickets at less than 21 apiece. Cricket writer, Colin Bateman, noted: "Hollies was one of cricket's most extraordinary characters, whose meagre thirteen Tests in no way reflected his contribution to the game. He was a fastish leg-break bowler who rarely had much use for the googly." Victor Edward Jackson (25 October 1916 – 30 January 1965) was an Australian first class cricketer who played for New South Wales cricket team, New South Wales and Leicestershire County Cricket Club. From Australia to Cahn's XI Jackson made his first class debut during the 1936/37 Sheffield Shield season with New South Wales.He was brought over to Britain by Sir Julien Cahn who raised a powerful private side based at his home at Stanford Hall. Les Berry
George Leslie "Les" Berry (28 May 1906 – 5 February 1985) was a cricketer who played for Leicestershire and holds many of the county's first-class batting records. A right-handed batsman who started his career in the middle order but became an opener, Berry, who had moved to Market Harborough at the age of eight, joined Leicestershire in the 1924 season, when he played in half the first-class matches but with little success. The following year, however, he made 1,071 runs at an average of 21 and appeared in virtually every match. He was then a regular member of the team until he retired, at the age of 45, at the end of the 1951 season. As well as the 1,000 runs he scored in 1925, he passed the 1,000-run mark in every English first-class cricket season from 1928 to 1950, and his 2,446 runs at an average of more than 50 runs an innings in 1937 remains the Leicestershire record for a season. Neil Jon Pullen (born 14 September 1977) is an English cricketer. Pullen is a right-handed batsman who bowls right-arm medium pace and who occasionally plays as a wicketkeeper. He was born in Leicester, Leicestershire. Pullen represented the Leicestershire Cricket Board in List A cricket. His debut List A match came against Hertfordshire in the 1999 NatWest Trophy. The Northamptonshire Cricket Board is the governing body for all recreational cricket in the historic county of Northamptonshire.
