Kips Bay Show House
The Kips Bay Show House is an annual fundraising event run by the Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club in which celebrated interior designers are invited to redecorate a luxury Manhattan home. History The Show House was first staged in 1973 to raise funds for after school and enrichment programs for New York City children. The program has grown in popularity over the years to the point that it presently draws over 20,000 guests each year. Since its inception, the Show House has raised over $17,000,000. Format Each year, interior designers from around the country apply and are chosen to decorate a room within the Show House. A new house is chosen each year for the event. In 2010, the event was postponed because the house had been sold. Kips Bay
Kips Bay, or Kip's Bay, is a neighborhood on the east side of the New York City borough of Manhattan. It is roughly bounded by East 34th Street to the north, the East River to the east, East 27th and/or 23rd Streets to the south, and Third Avenue to the west. Kips Bay is part of Manhattan Community District 6, and its primary ZIP Codes are 10010 and 10016. It is patrolled by the 13th and 17th Precincts of the New York City Police Department. Boys & Girls Clubs Of America
Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) is a national organization of local chapters which provide voluntary after-school programs for young people. The organization, which holds a congressional charter under Title 36 of the United States Code, has its headquarters in Atlanta, with regional offices in Chicago, Dallas, Atlanta, New York City and Los Angeles. BGCA is tax-exempt and partially funded by the federal government. Mario Buatta
Mario Buatta (October 20, 1935 – October 15, 2018) was an American interior decorator. Early life and education Born in West Brighton, Staten Island, New York, he was the son of Felice Buatta, who worked as a violinist and bandleader under the name Phil Burton. He was educated at Curtis High School, studied architecture at Wagner College and Cooper Union, then worked in department stores and took classes in design at Pratt Institute, Columbia University, and in summer 1961 at the Parsons School of Design in Europe. He later received guidance from English designer John Fowler, who greatly influenced him. Career Buatta worked for Elisabeth C. Draper and then for Keith Irvine, and started his own business in 1963. Scott Salvator is an American interior designer. Early life Salvator was born in Rome, New York and raised in Lawrenceville, NJ. He began his education in building and design by joining his grandfather's businesses in construction and historic preservation in Princeton, New Jersey, Princeton, N.J. He was responsible for the first total renovation of the Café Carlyle in New York's Carlyle Hotel, The Ardsley Building's Art Deco, art deco lobby, as well as the Ritz Tower.
