"King For A Day" is a 1985 song by the British band the Thompson Twins. It was released as the third single from the band's fifth album ''Here's To Future Days''. It was written by Tom Bailey, Alannah Currie, and Joe Leeway. There are two versions of the song, with various edits and remixes of the two. The UK version of the song has alternate lyrics and is more synth based. The US and album versions contain electric guitar. The single peaked at number 22 in the UK Singles Chart, spending six weeks on the chart and would be the band's final UK Top 40 hit. The single fared better in America where it peaked at number 8 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and also peaked at number 13 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart. Thompson Twins
Thompson Twins were a British Pop music, pop band formed in 1977 in Sheffield. Initially a New wave music, new wave group, they switched to a more mainstream pop sound and achieved considerable popularity during the mid-1980s, scoring a string of hits in the United Kingdom, the United States, and around the world. In 1993, they changed their name to Babble (band), Babble, to reflect their change in music from pop to Dub music, dub-influenced Chill-out music, chill-out. They continued as Babble until 1996, at which point the group permanently broke up. The band's name was based on the two bumbling detectives Thomson and Thompson (who are close doubles not twins) in the English language version of Hergé's comic strip ''The Adventures of Tintin''. Tracks, or Trackslistan, was a top 20 song list and a program of the Sweden, Swedish Radio channel Sveriges Radio P3, SR P3. The program premiered on 8 September 1984, and was broadcast on Saturday afternoons. The listeners voted for the songs they think is the best. Track list was one of the top music charts in Sweden. The predecessor of the Tracks was "Poporama" and was broadcast between 1974 and 1984. The host for the show was Kaj Kindvall. The chart was discontinued in 2010. The three most popular artists on the chart were Kent, Madonna and Roxette. Trackslistan on television "Trackslistan" was broadcast for three seasons in the mid-2000s by Sveriges Television, SVT.
