King Of The Arena
''King of the Arena'' is a 1933 American pre-Code Western film written and directed by Alan James. The film stars Ken Maynard, Lucile Browne, John St. Polis, Bob Kortman, Michael Visaroff and James A. Marcus. The film was released on June 1, 1933, by Universal Pictures. Plot A former circus performer, Ken Kenton becomes personally involved when a mysterious criminal organization called Black Death appears to be targeting a circus troupe. Ken is reunited with the circus owner's daughter, Mary Hiller, and crosses the path of Bargoff, a bronco rider who resents Ken and tries to get him killed in a knife-throwing act. After a Russian baron named Petroff assists him when Bargoff robs the circus and kidnaps Mary, it turns out Petroff is the ringleader of the Black Death. A confrontation leaves Ken and Mary safe to proceed with their lives. Jack Rockwell Trowbridge (October 6, 1890 – November 10, 1947) was an American film actor who was born in Mexico. He appeared in over 250 movies, mostly Westerns, between 1927 and 1947. Rockwell's older brother was character actor Charles Trowbridge. In the 1920s, prior to embarking on a professional career as actor, he worked as a fireman. Jack Mower (September 5, 1890 – January 6, 1965) was an American film actor. He appeared in more than 520 films between 1914 and 1965. He was born in Honolulu and died in Hollywood. After studying at Punahou College, in Honolulu, Mower moved to the mainland, and performed in vaudeville and in musical comedies on stage. His work on screen included serials and silent films. Ken Maynard
Kenneth Olin Maynard (July 21, 1895 – March 23, 1973) was an American actor and producer. He was mostly active from the 1920s to the 1940s and considered one of the biggest Western stars in Hollywood. Maynard was also an occasional screenwriter and director. In 1960, he was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his contributions to the film industry. Biography Maynard was born in Vevay, Indiana, United States, one of five children, another of whom, his lookalike younger brother, Kermit, would also become an actor; most audience members assumed that Kermit was his brother's identical twin.
