Kinetic Energy
In physics, the kinetic energy of an object is the energy that it possesses due to its motion. It is defined as the work needed to accelerate a body of a given mass from rest to its stated velocity. Having gained this energy during its acceleration, the body maintains this kinetic energy unless its speed changes. The same amount of work is done by the body when decelerating from its current speed to a state of rest. Formally, a kinetic energy is any term in a system's Lagrangian which includes a derivative with respect to time. In classical mechanics, the kinetic energy of a non-rotating object of mass ''m'' traveling at a speed ''v'' is \fracmv^2. In relativistic mechanics, this is a good approximation only when ''v'' is much less than the speed of light. The standard unit of kinetic energy is the joule, while the English unit of kinetic energy is the foot-pound. History and etymology The adjective ''kinetic'' has its roots in the Greek word κίνησις ''kinesis'', m ...

Kinetic (comics)
Kinetic was a comic book series created by Allan Heinberg and written by Kelley Puckett and Warren Pleece and published by DC Focus, a short-lived imprint of DC Comics. The aim of the imprint was to feature super-powered characters who did not follow the traditional format of classic superhero adventures. It was cancelled after eight issues. One Editorial Review called the book "Unbreakable or Donnie Darko." Storyline The series focused on Tom Morell, a high school boy suffering from a combination of medical conditions such as hemophilia, diabetes, muscular dystrophy and others. His life at school is characterized by constant mockery and abuse, and his home life consists of his highly protective mother who fears that he could die at any moment. As an escape from his normal life, Tom immerses himself in the adventures of his favorite comic book superhero, Kinetic. However, Tom suddenly manifests his own superpowers. The majority of the story focuses on his reactions to this sudd ...

Kinetic Engineering Limited
Kinetic Engineering Limited is an Indian automotive manufacturer. The company was founded in the year 1972 by H. K. Firodia. Today it is an automotive component manufacturer which formerly sold two-wheelers under the brand names Kinetic Honda and later Kinetic Motors. It introduced the Kinetic Luna moped which sold well domestically and was exported extensively to Argentina, Brazil, Sri Lanka, and the USA. Later Kinetic Engineering formed a joint venture with Honda Motor Company to introduce Kinetic Honda scooters, which had electric start and gearless transmissions. Kinetic and Honda parted ways in 1998 when the Firodias bought the majority stake of the joint venture from Honda. In 2008, Kinetic entered into a joint venture with Mahindra Automobiles, where Mahindra held an 80% stake. By this joint venture, Mahindra acquired the two-wheeler manufacturing facilities as well as the then selling brands of Kinetic. After ceasing two-wheeler manufacturing, Kinetic Engineering produc ...

Automatic Quartz
Automatic quartz is a collective term describing watch movements that combine a self-winding rotor mechanism (as used in automatic mechanical watches) to generate electricity with a piezoelectric quartz crystal as its timing element. Such movements aim to provide the advantages of quartz without the inconvenience and environmental impact of batteries. Several manufacturers employ this technique. Mode of operation A rotating pendulum inside the case is attached to a relatively large gear which meshes with a very small pinion. As the wearer moves, the pendulum turns and spins the pinion at a very high speed - up to 100,000 rpm. This is coupled to a miniature electrical generator which charges a storage device which is a capacitor(s) or a rechargeable battery. A typical full charge will last between two weeks and six months. Applications Seiko Japanese company Seiko pioneered the technique which it unveiled at the Baselworld 1986 trade show under the trial name AGM. The fir ...

Among his contributions to the early film industry are the first working 35 mm camera in Britain (Wales), and ''Birtac'', the first daylight loading home movie camera and projector. He also directed a number of early silent films. Early life Born in Richmond, Virginia, on 23 July 1854, to English parents. He became an orphan at the age of 14, during the American Civil War and was raised by an aunt. Career Acres invented the first British 35 mm moving picture camera, ''Birtac'' which was the first daylight loading home movie camera and projector; he was also the first travelling newsreel reporter in international film history and the first European film maker who had his films shown in the United States in public performances. He contributed much to the introduction and development of cinematography in all its aspects, from the construction of cameras, projectors, f ...

Kinetic Projectile
A kinetic energy weapon (also known as kinetic weapon, kinetic energy warhead, kinetic warhead, kinetic projectile, kinetic kill vehicle) is a weapon based solely on a projectile's kinetic energy instead of an explosive or any other kind of payload. The term Hit-to-kill, or kinetic kill, is also used in the military aerospace field to describe kinetic energy weapons. It has been used primarily in the anti-ballistic missiles (ABM) and anti-satellite weapons (ASAT) area, but some modern anti-aircraft missiles are also hit-to-kill. Hit-to-kill systems are part of the wider class of kinetic projectiles, a class that has widespread use in the anti-tank field. Typical kinetic energy weapons are blunt projectiles such as rocks and round shots, pointed ones such as arrows, and somewhat pointed ones such as bullets. Among projectiles that do not contain explosives are those launched from railguns, coilguns, and mass drivers, as well as kinetic energy penetrators. All of these weapons w ...

Kinetic Military Action
Kinetic military action is a euphemism for military action involving active warfare, including lethal force. The phrase is used to contrast between conventional military force and "soft" force, including diplomacy, Sanctions (law), sanctions and Cyberwarfare, cyber warfare. United States Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld used the words "kinetic" and "non-kinetic" often. "Kinetic military action" was used by White House aide Ben Rhodes (speechwriter), Ben Rhodes on March 23, 2011 to describe U.S. military action in 2011 military intervention in Libya, Libya: This use was noted by news media: "'Kinetic military action' is still hell" and "Kinetic Military Action No More". U.S. United States Department of Defense, Department of Defense used "kinetic operations" on a webpage about "Operation Inherent Resolve". It contained an interactive graphic titled "AIRSTRIKES IN IRAQ AND SYRIA" and captioned "... operations related to Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, ISIL since kinetic o ...
