Kimanis–Keningau Highway
Kimanis–Keningau Highway is a Malaysian State Roads system, state highway in Sabah, Malaysia, connecting the town of Kimanis to Keningau. It also acts as an alternative for Malaysia Federal Route 500, Federal Route 500 from Kota Kinabalu to Tenom which is nowadays somewhat under-use. The highway began as a main logging road before being upgraded to a full two-lane highway. The highway was opened to traffic in 2006. Even though the highway is relatively short and is in very good condition, it is notorious for its very steep gradients along the way, ranging from 10% to about 25%, making the Kimanis–Keningau Highway as the steepest highway in Malaysia. As a result, climbing road lanes are provided at steep sections. A gravity hill induced by optical illusion is located from Keningau. Kimanis
Kimanis (Chinese: 金馬利) is a town and also a parliamentary constituency in Papar District, West Coast Division of Sabah, Malaysia. It is located approximately 45 kilometres south of the city of Kota Kinabalu, halfway between Papar and Beaufort. History Kimanis used to be the base for the American Trading Company of Borneo owned by Joseph William Torrey, Thomas Bradley Harris and Chinese investors, which obtained a lease over part of northern Borneo area from the Sultanate of Brunei in the late 19th century. The area was then taken over by the British under the administration of North Borneo. The British built a railway track; the Kimanis railway station became one of the stops on the present-day Sabah State Railway. In 2006, there was a proposal to relocate the current Kota Kinabalu International Airport to Kimanis.
