Kim Hak-kyun (curler)
Kim Hak-kyun (born March 12, 1996) is a South Korean curler from Uiseong, South Korea. He currently plays second on Team Kim Soo-hyuk. Kim is a two-time Pacific-Asia champion, winning the title in 2019 and 2021 as a member of the Korean team. Career Kim joined the Kim Chang-min rink at second for the 2019–20 season. The team also included twin brothers Lee Ki-jeong and Lee Ki-bok playing third and lead respectively. The team did well in their first event together, winning the 2019 Korean Curling Championships by going a perfect 8–0 through the tournament. This qualified them as the Korean National Team for that season, meaning they would represent Korea at both the Pacific-Asia Curling Championships and the World Men's Curling Championship. Uiseong Curling Club
Uiseong County (''Uiseong-gun'') is a county in Gyeongsangbuk-do Province, South Korea. Located near the center of the province, it is bounded by Andong on the north, Cheongsong on the east, Gunwi County on the south, and Sangju and Yecheon on the west. As in most parts of Korea, most of the land is vacant and forested; only about 19% of the county's area is farmland. Curling
Curling is a sport in which players slide stones on a sheet of ice toward a target area which is segmented into four concentric circles. It is related to bowls, boules, and shuffleboard. Two teams, each with four players, take turns sliding heavy, polished granite stones, also called ''rocks'', across the ice ''curling sheet'' toward the ''house'', a circular target marked on the ice. Each team has eight stones, with each player throwing two. The purpose is to accumulate the highest score for a ''game''; points are scored for the stones resting closest to the centre of the house at the conclusion of each ''end'', which is completed when both teams have thrown all of their stones once. 2020 World Men's Curling Championship
The 2020 World Men's Curling Championship (branded as the 2020 LGT World Men's Curling Championship for sponsorship reasons) was scheduled to be held from March 28 to April 5 at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow, Scotland. On March 14, 2020, the World Curling Federation announced the event was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The event was set to be the first event to start gathering points towards the 2022 Winter Olympic Qualification. Upon cancellation, the qualifying process was left unclear. It was later announced that any country who were scheduled to compete in the event and did not qualify through the 2021 World Championships would take part in a final Olympic Qualifying Tournament in December 2021. 2019 Changan Ford International Curling Elite
The 2019 Changan Ford International Curling Elite was held from December 5 to 10 in Xining, Qinghai, China. The total purse for the event was CNY 225,000. The 2019 Cameron's Brewing Oakville Fall Classic was held August 30 to September 2 in Oakville, Ontario. It was the first event of the Ontario Curling Tour for the 2019–20 curling season and the sixth and fifth Men's and Women's events on the World Curling Tour respectively. The total purse for the event was $16,000 on both the Men's and Women's side. 2019 China Open (curling)
The 2019 China Open was held from December 13 to 17 in Tianjin, China. It was the third edition of the event. The winning team on both sides received 40,000 of the total 500,000 (CNY). The event was held at the Beijing National Aquatics Centre in preparation for the 2022 Winter Olympics in which the venue hosted the curling events. On the men's side, the Korean team of Kim Chang-min, Lee Ki-jeong, Kim Hak-kyun and Lee Ki-bok scored one in an extra end to defeat the United States' Korey Dropkin 7–6 in the final. Team Kim qualified through the round robin as the top seeded team with a 6–1 record, only suffering defeat once to Canada's Braden Calvert rink. World Curling Championships
The World Curling Championships are the annual world championships for curling, organized by the World Curling Federation and contested by national championship teams. There are men's, women's and mixed doubles championships, as well as men's and women's versions of junior and senior championships. There is also a world championship for wheelchair curling. The men's championship started in 1959, while the women's started in 1979. The mixed doubles championship was started in 2008.
