Kim Dong-won (born February 24, 1955) is a South Korean documentary filmmaker. Kim is best known for his documentary films ''Repatriation'' (2004) and ''63 Years On'' (2008). Career His acclaimed documentary ''Repatriation'' (2004) documents the lives of North Korean spies who were captured in the South Korea and takes a look at their journey back to their homeland after being detained in the South's prisons for over 30 years. A labour of love that took him more than a decade to finish, it has been hailed as the most successful documentary ever in South Korea. It also won Special Mention at the 24th Korean Association of Film Critics Awards and Special Jury Prize at the 5th Busan Film Critics Awards in 2004, as well as Best Documentary Award at the 19th Fribourg International Film Festival in 2005. South Korean Film Directors
South is one of the cardinal directions or compass points. The direction is the opposite of north and is perpendicular to both east and west. Yu Hyun-mok
Yu Hyun-mok (July 2, 1925 – June 28, 2009) was a South Korean film director. Born in Sariwon, Hwanghae, Korea (North Korea today), he made his film debut in 1956 with ''Gyocharo'' (''Crossroads''). According to the website koreanfilm.org, his 1961 film ''Obaltan'' "has repeatedly been voted the best Korean film of all time in local critics' polls." Yu attended the San Francisco International Film Festival in 1963, where ''Variety'' called ''Obaltan'' a "remarkable film", and praised Yu's " illiantly detailed camera" and the film's "probing sympathy and rich characterizations." His dedication to the intellectual side of film and interest in using film to deal with social and political issues led him to have difficulties both with box-office-oriented producers, and with Korea's military government during the 1960s and 1970s. The Buil Film Awards () is a South Korean film awards ceremony hosted by the ''Busan Ilbo'' newspaper. It began in 1958 as one of the earliest film awards in the country. During the 1950s and 1960s, it was the biggest film awards event in the Busan region, and was held annually until 1973. The event went into a 34-year hiatus from 1974 to 2007 when the film industry lost its appeal due to government censorship and the burgeoning television industry. A short film is any motion picture that is short enough in running time not to be considered a feature film. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences defines a short film as "an original motion picture that has a running time of 40 minutes or less, including all credits".
