Gaelic Football
Gaelic football ( ga, Peil Ghaelach; short name '), commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA or Football is an Irish team sport. It is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the other team's goals (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goals and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Players advance the football up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands). In the game, two types of scores are possible: points and goals. A point is awarded for kicking or hand-passing the ball over the crossbar , signalled by the umpire raising a white flag. A goal is awarded for kicking the ball under the crossbar into the net (the ball cannot be hand-passed into the goal), signalled by the umpire raising a green flag. Kiltimagh
Kiltimagh () is a town in County Mayo in Ireland. As of the 2016 census, the town had a population of 1,069 people. Although there in no river going through the town, three rivers flow around the town: the Glore River, Yellow River and Pollagh River. The town centre sits at the crest of a hill surrounding The High Fort (Mooney's Fort/Lios Ard) in Fortlands and built out linearly on the main road from there. History The town's name, in the Irish language, was originally ''Coillte Maghach'' (the woods of Maghach), based on a reputed association with a chieftain of the Fir Bolg named Maghach. Mayo Intermediate Football Championship
The Mayo Intermediate Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football competition contested by mid-tier (17-32) Mayo GAA clubs. Ballyhaunis are the title holders (2022) defeating Kilmeena in the Final. Honours The winning club competes in the Connacht Intermediate Club Football Championship. They often do well there, with the likes of Westport (2016), Hollymount Carraroe (2015), Kiltane (2013) and Charlestown Sarsfields (2012) among the clubs from Mayo to win at least one Connacht Championship after winning the Mayo Intermediate Football Championship. The winning club can, in turn, go on to play in the All-Ireland Intermediate Club Football Championship. Peter Burke (Gaelic Footballer)
Peter Burke (born 9 November 1976) is a Gaelic football coach, selector and former player. He played as goalkeeper for the Kiltimagh club and the Mayo county team. Burke made 60 appearances for his county between 1997 and 2004. He played in the 1997 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Final defeat to Kerry. He did not concede a goal in that game but he did in the 2004 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Final, against Kerry again, another loss. He won two Connacht Senior Football Championships, in 1997 and 1999, as well as the 2000–01 National Football League. He was also involved with the Ireland international rules football team as a player. After Burke had retired from playing inter-county football, Mayo manager James Horan invited him to be Mayo's senior goalkeeping coach, a role Burke held for eight years (between 2011 and 2018), coaching his former understudy David Clarke.
