Kilmory, Knapdale
Kilmory ( gd, Cill Mhoire) is a hamlet in the civil parish of South Knapdale, on Knapdale, Argyll and Bute, Scotland. It is situated near the mouth of Loch Sween on its southern shores. In 1961 it had a population of 81. Kilmory Knap Chapel, located around northeast of Kilmory Beach, dates to the 13th century. Kilmory Knap Chapel
Kilmory Knap Chapel is a 13th-century Christian chapel, located at the tiny hamlet of Kilmory, in Knapdale, Argyll and Bute, on the west coast of Scotland. Kilmory Knap Chapel is on Ellary Estate, next to Loch Sween, on the opposite shore to Keills Chapel. When the roof was lost the building was used as a burial enclosure. The structure was re-roofed in 1934 to hold a large collection of Early Christian cross slabs, late medieval graveslabs and standing crosses of West Highland type, from the 14th to 16th centuries. The chapel is an important historical site of Clan Macmillan (of Knap). In the church is Macmillan's Cross, a well-preserved piece of medieval carving, portraying the Chief of the clan with hunting dogs. The chapel and cross are cared for by Historic Scotland on behalf of the State and are a scheduled monument. Kilmory, Ardnamurchan
Kilmory (''Cill Mhoire'' in Gaelic meaning "Mary's Cell" or "Church of Mary") is a small crofting (township) hamlet on the north coast of Ardnamurchan, western Scotland. Geography Kilmory is reached by a branch road off the B8007 road that runs from Salen to Achosnich by way of Kilchoan. All the roads in Ardnamurchan are single track. There is a view north from the junction with the B8007 to the islands of Rùm, Eigg, Muck and Canna. The road descends northwards, crosses the Achateny Water that drains Loch Mudle, passes through Branault and on to Kilmory, Swordle and Ockle. The branch road that enters Kilmory continues to its end at Balnaha Croft. A rough track (access on foot only) leads to very beautiful, wild and unspoilt Kilmory Bay, a sheltered bay with clear water, white sands and black, volcanic rock. Kilmory, Arran
Kilmory ( gd, Cill Mhoire) is a small village on the south coast of the Isle of Arran, located on the coastal road between Lagg and Kildonan. Kilmory is also the parish of the western side of the Isle of Arran. History Southwest of the village are the Kilmory Cairns (including Torrylin Cairn), a set of Neolithic chambered cairns in which skeletal remains and a flint knife were found. Geography Kilmory is situated on the southern coast of the Isle of Arran. Visitors to Kilmory are drawn by the natural environment of the area, including a long beach. Community The village itself is no more than a few houses, a shop, a church, and a post office. In early 2007, the village suffered a loss of amenities, with the village shop, tearoom and public bar all closing. Kilmory Camanachd
Kilmory Camanachd is a shinty club from Lochgilphead, Argyll, Scotland. The club was founded in 1977 in its present form. The club plays in South Division One and has a reserve side in the Bullough cup. The club is associated with Dunadd camanachd (the ladies team) History The original Kilmory Shinty Club was founded in 1914 and had success in the 1930s. After the Second World War, the club reformed as Kilmory United and played until 1955. The club reformed in 1977, the players being school leavers and some more experienced players who had come to live in the Mid Argyll area. This team disbanded in 1994 due to team raising difficulties. The present Kilmory Camanachd Club was re-formed in 1998 Kilmory have won the following major trophies since 1977, Division Two Fraser Cup in 1978–79, 1985–86, 1988–89, 1991–92 and 1999–00; Bullough Cup in 1979 and 1992.
