Kill The Moonlight (film)
The 16mm feature film, ''Kill the Moonlight'', completed in 1991, is an unconventional comedy about a stock car racer. It starts normal enough, but as the film unfolds, the main character starts to unravel in strange ways when he is contaminated by toxic waste. At the same time, the plot of the film disintegrates and scenes start to go out of sync, and the picture goes upside down and backwards at times. Two of the film's characters are sampled in Beck, Beck's hit song "Loser (Beck song), Loser". The film was unprinted and seen by very few until 1994 when it premiered at the Rome Italy Film Festival. Synopsis A stock car racer blows a rod and his car catches fire. To raise money to get back into the game he works as fish hatchery worker, toxic waste cleaner, drug peddler and thief. Steve Hanft
Steve Hanft is a writer, director, musician, and artist. Early life Steven Paul Hanft was born in Ventura, California where he started making films at the age of nine. He has an MFA in Experimental Narrative Film from California Institute of the Arts, CalArts. Career Hanft is known for making music videos for the Cure, Primal Scream, Delinquent Habits, and Beck. Most notably Hanft directed the Beck, Loser video, and the Beck, Where It's At video, that won an MTV award. Hanft is also known for making films. In 1998, he made an experimental documentary with Elliott Smith, called Strange Parallel. In 2007, Hanft produced and starred in the Cannes Film Festival Bronze Lion winning short, "Sunglass Catch". Hanft also writes and plays music. He has released several records including the recent, April March and Steve Hanft, Magic Monsters. The Pussywillows were a group that featured Elinor Blake, Lisa Dembling and Lisa Jenio. Their recordings have appeared on the ''Kill the Moonlight'' soundtrack, and the '' Rutles Highway Revisited'' album. Background The Pussywillows were originally from New York City. It consisted of three friends— Elinor Blake, Lisa Dembling and Lisa Jenio—who liked singing together girl-group style. With a singing style like that of 1960s groups such as The Shangri-Las and The Ronettes, they would sing on stage wearing thrift-store dresses. The group originally had some help in its formation by Mike Chandler of the group Raunch Hands. Through Todd Abramson of the Telstar label they got some gigs, which led to them recording ''Spring Fever!'', released on Telstar. The Dynamics
The Dynamics were an American R&B group from Detroit, Michigan. The Dynamics were formed in the early 1960s. Their first hit was 1963's "Misery", which formed the basis for the Who's first record, " Zoot Suit". In the late 1960s the group was managed by Ted White, who married Aretha Franklin. The group released two full-length albums and charted three hits on the U.S. R&B charts in 1973-74. Their first album was recorded in Memphis and featured a number of Memphis session musicians – Reggie Young on guitar, Bobby Emmons on organ, Bobby Wood on piano, Mike Leech on bass, and Gene Chrisman on drums.
