Kill Rock Stars
Kill Rock Stars is an independent record label founded in 1991 by Slim Moon and Tinuviel Sampson, and based in both Olympia, Washington, and Portland, Oregon. The label has released a variety of work in different genres, but was originally known for its commitment to underground punk rock bands and the Olympia area music scene. History Sampson and Moon initially started the label because, in Moon's words, "I just wanted to put out my friends' records because nobody was putting out my friends' records. And to put out spoken word 7-inch records." KRS-101 (the label's first release) was in fact a split 7-inch spoken-word record with Kathleen Hanna and Slim Moon; other "Wordcore" releases followed. The Old Haunts
The Old Haunts are a rock music band formed in 2001 in Olympia, Washington. The band is sometimes defined as Punk rock, punk but exhibits additional qualities similar to southern swamp rock. Arpeggiated twangy guitar riffs, pounding bass lines and rock drumming are major features of the group's sound. Band members Principal members of the band are the founders Craig Extine (guitar, vocals) and Scott Seckington (bass), and the band's current drummer, Tobi Vail. Vail is a member of Bikini Kill and The Frumpies. Past drummers for The Old Haunts include founding member Curtis James, Natalie Cox, Danny Sasaki, and Chris Sutton, most of who have played with other Olympia music scene, Olympia bands. James was in Serum Greys and Excuse 17; Sasaki was a member of Mocket (band), Mocket; Cox came from Popular Music (band), Popular Music; and Sutton had been in Dub Narcotic Sound System. Wimps (band)
Wimps is a punk rock band from Seattle, Washington formed in 2012. The band includes drummer Dave Ramm (formerly of The Intelligence The Intelligence is an American rock band from Seattle, formed in 1999. Founded by multi-instrumentalist Lars Finberg ( A Frames, Thee Oh Sees), the band currently consists of Finberg, alongside Dave Hernandez (guitar), Drew Church (bass) and ...), guitarist Rachel Ratner, and bassist Matt Nyce. Mary Timony
Mary Bozana Timony (born October 17, 1970) is an American independent singer-songwriter, guitarist, keyboardist, and violist. She has been a member of the bands Helium, Autoclave and Wild Flag, and currently fronts Ex Hex. Timony's music is often heavy and dark, frequently using drones, beats, and modal melodies reminiscent of European Medieval music. She uses a number of alternate guitar tunings, most prominent of which is DADGAE. Her unique style has been cited as an influence amongst well respected and admired musicians such as Carrie Brownstein of Sleater-Kinney, Sadie Dupuis of Speedy Ortiz and many more. Biography Timony was born to James and Joan Timony of Washington, D.C., and raised in the neighborhoods of Glover Park and Wesley Heights. They Shoot Horses, Don't They? was a post punk band from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The band had an eclectic style, combining horns and keyboards with pop and rock rhythms. History The band was founded by Nut Brown in 2003. Members included Consuelos and Bruce Dyck. Their debut album ''Boo Hoo Hoo Boo'' was released on the Kill Rock Stars label February 21, 2006; at that time the band had eight members. KRS released ''Pick Up Sticks'' on June 5, 2007. Marnie Stern (born March 18, 1976) is an American musician, singer-songwriter, and guitarist. She has garnered acclaim for her technical skill and tapping style of guitar play. Stern is also a current member of The 8G Band from the show ''Late Night with Seth Meyers''. Musical career In early 2007, Kill Rock Stars released Stern's debut CD, ''In Advance of the Broken Arm''. It was well received by critics, and most favorably by ''The New York Times'', citing it as "The year's most exciting rock 'n' roll album." Stereo Total was a Berlin-based multilingual, French-German duo which comprised Françoise Cactus (born Françoise Van Hove and formerly co-leader of the West Berlin band Les Lolitas) and Brezel ('pretzel') Göring (aka Friedrich von Finsterwalde, born Friedrich Ziegler, ex-Haunted Henschel, Sigmund Freud Experience). Stereo Total's social media accounts reported that Françoise Cactus died from breast cancer on 17 February 2021, aged 57. Shy Child
Shy Child were an American electronic music duo from New York City, United States, consisting of Pete Cafarella on vocals and synthesizers and Nate Smith on drums. History Shy Child formed in the summer of 2000, when former college friends Pete Cafarella and Nate Smith separately moved to New York City. The duo shared a love for progressive rock and electronic music, and started playing music together in an attempt to create a fusion of the genres. Shy Child recorded their debut album, '' Please Consider Our Time'', in 2001. Ryan Otto Cassata (born December 13, 1993) is an American musician, public speaker, writer, filmmaker, and actor. Cassata speaks at high schools and universities on the subject of gender dysphoria, being transgender, bullying and his personal transition from female to male, including top surgery in January 2012, when he was 18 years old.
