Kildonan-River East is a provincial electoral district in the Canadian province of Manitoba that first came into effect for the 2019 Manitoba general election. It elected one member to the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba. The riding was created by the 2018 provincial redistribution out of parts of Kildonan, River East, and a small part of St. Johns. Cathy Cox (Canadian Politician)
Cathy Cox is a Canadian provincial politician, who was elected as the Member of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba for the riding of River East in the 2016 election. She is a member of the Progressive Conservative Party of Manitoba (PCs). She held the riding for the party after incumbent MLA Bonnie Mitchelson did not stand for re-election. On 3 May 2016, when the PC government was officially sworn in, Cox was appointed to the Executive Council of Manitoba as Minister of Sustainable Development. On 17 August 2017, Cox was named Minister of Sport, Culture and Heritage. The Manitoba Liberal Party (french: Parti libéral du Manitoba) is a political party in Manitoba, Canada. Its roots can be traced to the late 19th century, following the province's creation in 1870. Origins and early development (to 1883) Originally, there were no official political parties in Manitoba, although many leading politicians were affiliated with parties that existed at the national level. The New Democratic Party of Manitoba (french: Nouveau Parti démocratique du Manitoba) is a social-democratic political party in Manitoba, Canada. It is the provincial wing of the federal New Democratic Party, and is a successor to the Manitoba Co-operative Commonwealth Federation. It is currently the opposition party in Manitoba. Formation and early years In the federal election of 1958, the national Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF) was reduced to only eight seats in the House of Commons of Canada. The CCF's leadership restructured the party during the next three years, and in 1961 it merged with the Canadian Labour Congress to create the New Democratic Party (NDP). 2016 Manitoba General Election
The 2016 Manitoba general election was held on April 19, 2016 to elect members to the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba, Canada. The New Democratic Party of Manitoba, led by Greg Selinger, were defeated by the Progressive Conservative Party of Manitoba led by Brian Pallister, ending nearly 17 years of NDP government. The Tories won 40 seats, one of the largest majority governments in Manitoba history, the other one was in 1915 when Liberals also won 40 seats. The election also removed one of the two New Democratic governments in the country, the other being formed by the Alberta New Democratic Party. River East (neighbourhood)
River East is a provincial electoral division in the Canadian province of Manitoba. It was officially created by redistribution in 1979, and has formally existed since the provincial election of 1981. The riding is located on the northeast corner of the City of Winnipeg. It is bordered by the Red River to the west, the city limit, by Springfield to the north and east, and by the riding of Rossmere to the south. It was replaced for the 2019 election by the new Kildonan-River East district. River East is an affluent district with an average income of $62,534 and an unemployment rate of 5.60% in 1999. It also has a large immigrant population, at 17% of the total population. Twelve per cent of River East's residents list German as their ethnic origin, while a further 9% list Ukrainian.
