Kiekut (Hamburg U-Bahn Station)
Kiekut is a station on the Großhansdorf branch of Hamburg U-Bahn line U1. The station was opened in June 1922, and is located in the Hamburg suburb of Großhansdorf, Germany. History The railway station was built according to a design by Eugen Göbel around 1915. When the station was built, the area around it was very sparsely populated, so only the most necessary parts were built, such as the platform, stairway, and bridge to the street. No station building was built. When the tracks at the station were electrified, the westbound track was taken out and since hasn't been replaced. The track was electrified in 1921, but trains did not stop here until 1922. In 1954 and 1994, the entrance to the station was redesigned. The following list contains all 93 stations of the Hamburg U-Bahn. The Hamburg U-Bahn is operated by the Hamburger Hochbahn (HHA) under the supervision of the Hamburger Verkehrsverbund. The majority of stations are located within the borders of the city of Hamburg — only nine stations are in the German state of Schleswig-Holstein outside the city limits — and all stations are located on the right bank of the Elbe river. Großhansdorf
Großhansdorf is a municipality in the district of Stormarn, in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. It is situated approximately 3 km east of Ahrensburg, and 25 km northeast of Hamburg. History Großhansdorf was first mentioned in 1274 in a deed of Hamburg's St. Catherine's Church congregation, to which Großhansdorf was affiliated at that time. In 1435 the city of Hamburg acquired Großhansdorf and administered it as part of its forest villages domain (Walddörfer), consisting of a series of Hamburgian exclaves surrounded by then else Holstein territories. In 1642 the erection of a water mill is recorded, which operated until the 19th century. Island Platform
An island platform (also center platform, centre platform) is a station layout arrangement where a single platform is positioned between two tracks within a railway station, tram stop or transitway interchange. Island platforms are popular on twin-track routes due to pragmatic and cost reasons. They are also useful within larger stations where local and express services for the same direction of travel can be provided from opposite sides of the same platform thereby simplifying transfers between the two tracks. Hamburger Hochbahn
Hamburger Hochbahn AG (HHA), founded in 1911, operates the underground system and large parts of the bus system in Hamburg, Germany. History The HHA was founded by Siemens & Halske and AEG as a consortium on 27 May 1911. The first chairman was Albert Ballin. From 1919 until 1978, the HHA operated a large tram network, and from 5 December 1921 the HHA also operated the first motor buses in Hamburg. After the acquisition of the ''Straßen-Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft'' (SEG) in 1919 and the ''Hamburg-Altonaer-Centralbahngesellschaft AG'' in 1923, the HHA had a rolling stock of 865 power cars and 930 trailers by 1928. The length of tracks was 217.33 km. In 1970 the length of the lines were only 82.7 km, in 1978 they were 89.5 km with 80 stations. The Hamburger Verkehrsverbund (HVV) ( en, "Hamburg Transport Association") is a transport association coordinating public transport in and around Hamburg, Germany. Its main objectives are to provide a unified fare system, requiring only a single ticket for journeys with transfers between different operating companies, and to facilitate and speed up travel by harmonising the individual companies' schedules.
