Kidney Federation Of India
The Kidney Federation of India (Malayalam: കിഡ്നി ഫെഡറേഷന് ഇന്ത്യ KFI) is a non-government charitable foundation working for patients with renal problems, located in Thrissur city of Kerala, India. It was founded by a Syro-Malabar Catholic Church priest, Davis Chiramel. History Chiramel donated his kidney on 30 September to Gopinathan Chakkamadathil, an electrician who lives in Vadanappilly, Thrissur District. From his experience, he started the foundation in Thrissur city for the treatment of kidney failure. The KFI has opened a dialysis facility with ten machines in Thrissur and offers treatment for its members at a maximum of Rs300 per session. Thrissur
Thrissur (), formerly Trichur, also known by its historical name Thrissivaperur, is a city and the headquarters of the Thrissur district in Kerala, India. It is the third largest urban agglomeration in Kerala after Kochi and Kozhikode, and the 21st largest in India. Davis Chiramel
Rev. Fr. Davis Chiramel, popularly known as the Kidney Priest, is an Indian Catholic priest and the founder of the Accident Care and Transport Service (ACTS) and the Kidney Federation of India. He currently serves under the Syro-Malabar Catholic Archdiocese of Thrissur. Early life Davis was born at Aranattukara on 30 December 1960 as the son of Chiramel Chakkunni and Kochannam. Kidney Failure
Kidney failure, also known as end-stage kidney disease, is a medical condition in which the kidneys can no longer adequately filter waste products from the blood, functioning at less than 15% of normal levels. Kidney failure is classified as either acute kidney failure, which develops rapidly and may resolve; and chronic kidney failure, which develops slowly and can often be irreversible. Symptoms may include leg swelling, feeling tired, vomiting, loss of appetite, and confusion. Complications of acute and chronic failure include uremia, high blood potassium, and volume overload. Kottayam District
