Kid Speed
''Kid Speed'' also known as ''The Four Wheeled Terror'' is a 1924 American silent comedy film directed by Larry Semon and featuring Oliver Hardy. Plot A group of young men are tuning up their race cars and sportsters in a small garage. Dangerous Dan McGraw (Hardy) gets a note from rich Mr Du Poys saying he wants to see his car and will bring his daughter along. They arrive in an open-top chauffeur driven limo. Meanwhile Kid Speed checks his appearance in a broken mirror. His car is under repair and a black mechanic lies underneath while it backfires. The noise wakes the neighbour: town sheriff Phil O'Delfya. He shouts across to be quiet. Kid Speed apologises, They plan to quietly drive off but instead he goes into reverse, crashing through all walls and hitting the sheriff's bed. Larry Semon
Lawrence Semon (February 9, 1889 – October 8, 1928) was an American actor, director, producer, and screenwriter during the silent film era. In his day, Semon was considered a major movie comedian, but he is now remembered mainly for working with both Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy before they started working together. He is also sometimes noted for directing (as well as appearing in) the 1925 silent film '' The Wizard of Oz'', which had a slight influence on the better-known 1939 talkie '' The Wizard of Oz'' released by MGM. The film was included in the 2005 three-disc DVD version of the 1939 film, along with other silent ''Oz'' movies. Early life Born in West Point, Mississippi, Semon was the son of a travelling Jewish vaudeville magician Zera Semon, who billed himself as "Zera the Great". Spencer Bell (actor)
Spencer Bell (September 25, 1887 – August 18, 1935) was an American stage and film actor, best known for playing opposite Larry Semon in many of his silent comedy shorts from the late 1910s to 1928. Bell was one of the first African American comedic actors of the silent film era, and was the first to be signed to film contract. Over the course of his fifteen-year film career, Bell appeared in more than seventy comedy shorts. Career Bell was born in Lexington, Kentucky. Prior to his Hollywood film career, he worked as a chauffeur and performed in vaudeville and minstrel shows. He enlisted in the United States Army and served in World War I. Bell made his film debut in Larry Semon's 1919 silent comedy short, ''Passing the Buck''. As was typical for African American actors of the era, Bell was typecast in stereotypical roles.
