Kickers Offenbach
Offenbacher Fussball-Club Kickers, commonly known as Kickers Offenbach, is a German association football club in Offenbach am Main, Hesse. The club was founded on 27 May 1901 in the Rheinischer Hof restaurant by footballers who had left established local clubs including ''Melitia'', ''Teutonia'', ''Viktoria'', ''Germania'' and ''Neptun''. From 1921 to 1925 they were united with '' VfB 1900 Offenbach'' as ''VfR Kickers Offenbach'' until resuming their status as a separate side, ''Offenbacher FC Kickers''. The team plays its home games at the Stadion am Bieberer Berg. History The club became one of the founding members of the Nordkreis-Liga in 1909, where it played until the outbreak of the war. Stadion Am Bieberer Berg (2012)
Stadion am Bieberer Berg is a stadium in Offenbach am Main, Germany. It became the new home of Kickers Offenbach, when it replaced the Stadion am Bieberer Berg (1921), "old" Stadion am Bieberer Berg. The first game played on the ground was a Exhibition game#Club football, pre-season friendly between Kickers and Bayer 04 Leverkusen on 18 July 2012, with more than 15,000 fans attending. The stadium is also a regular host to the Germany national rugby union team's games. The Hessenliga (until 2008 ''Oberliga Hessen'') is the highest football league in the state of Hesse and the Hessian football league system. It is one of fourteen Oberligas in German football, the fifth tier of the German football league system. Until the introduction of the 3. Liga in 2008 it was the fourth tier of the league system, until the introduction of the Regionalligas in 1994 the third tier. Horst-Gregorio Canellas (6 June 1921 – 23 July 1999) was a Spanish-German entrepreneur and association football, football official. Canellas is best known for his role in breaking the Bundesliga scandal (1971), 1971 Bundesliga scandal. He was also a hostage on the hijacked German Lufthansa Flight 181 in 1977. Biography Canellas, son of a Spanish father and a German mother, was born in Plauen, Saxony, in 1921. After the end of World War II he spent some time in Spain and then moved to Hesse and adopted German citizenship. He became the managing director of a fruit importer in Frankfurt. The DFB-Pokal (), also known as the German Cup in English, is a German knockout football cup competition held annually by the German Football Association (DFB). Sixty-four teams participate in the competition, including all clubs from the Bundesliga and the 2. Bundesliga along with the four best teams from the 3. Liga. It is considered the second-most important club title in German football after the Bundesliga championship.
