Khwairakpam Chaoba
Khwairakpam Chaoba Singh ( mni, ꯈ꯭ꯋꯥꯢꯔꯥꯛꯄꯝ ꯆꯥꯎꯕ ꯁꯤꯡꯍ) (1895 in Uripok Sorbon Thingen leikai, Imphal – 1950) was a poet, essayist, prose-writer and novelist. He was influenced by Sanskrit tradition and is regarded as one of the best known writers of modern Meitei literature. He founded the Manipuri Sahitya Sammelini of Meitei literature along with Dr. Lamabam Kamal Singh, Hijam Irabot and Hijam Anganghal He adapted Thomas Gray's poem ''Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard'' into Meitei as ''Awaba ishei'' and included in his 1946 poem ''Thainagi Leirang'' (Ancient Flower), a poem which "laments the sad and poor life of country men who died unsung and unhonored". Biography He presented the first historical novel in Meitei – Lavangalata which is considered to be an outstanding work. This is perhaps one of the greatest novels in Meitei literature. Khwairakpam Bishwamittra is an Indian film director, actor and script writer who works in theatre and Manipuri films. He first appeared on silver screen in the 1996 hit film ''Kanaga Hinghouni'', where he co-directed with Chan Heisnam. Some of the famous films he directed include ''Kaorage'', ''Torei'' and ''Sur Da Ngaojabee''. He is also a renowned playwright of Manipuri Shumang Leelas and stage plays produced by AIR Imphal and Doordarshan DDK Imphal. As of 2022, his non-feature ''Eewai'' got official selection at the 4th Nepal Cultural International Film Festival 2022. Khwairakpam Loken Singh
Khwairakpam Loken Singh (Kh. Loken Singh) is a politician from Manipur, India. He is an ex-MLA and ex-Minpur (GoM). He was also president of the All Manipur Students' Union AMSU in 1984. During the illegal immigrants agitations in Assam and northeast states in the late 1980s and early 1990s which were also spread across the other states of the northeast including Manipur, he as the leader of All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU) along with student leaders like Sarbananda Sonowal of All Assam Students Union (AASU) spearheaded the agitation. He is the vice-President of Manipur Olympic Association (MOA). He also held the post of President Manipur Table Tennis Association. In 2007 he was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Manipur, as the Indian National Congress candidate in the constituency Sagolband. In Meetei society, the sagei or family name is known as ''Yumnak'' in Meetei Language. Pronounced "yoom-naak". Ethnic ''yumnaks'' are used in the Meetei /Meitei community including the Meitei Pangal and Meitei Bamon (Manipuri Brahmin).
