Monnujan Sufian
Monnujan Sufian (born 1 January 1953) is a Bangladesh Awami League politician who is the current Jatiya Sangsad member from Khulna-3 constituency and the current State Minister of Labour and Employment. Background Sufian completed her bachelor's from Khulna Girls' College in 1969. Her husband, Abu Sufyan Bir Protik, was a freedom fighter, politician and labor leader. She is the daughter of Late Alhaj Moslem Bawali and Late Johra Begum and the eldest among her siblings. Career Sufian served as the president of Khulna Girls' College unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League in 1968. Sufian was elected to parliament from Khulna-3 as an Awami League candidate in 2008. She was appointed State Minister of Labour and Employment in the Second Sheikh Hasina Cabinet. Sufian was re-elected to parliament from Khulna-3 as an Awami League candidate in 2014. 2018 Bangladeshi General Election
General elections were held in Bangladesh on 30 December 2018 to elect 300 directly-elected members of the Jatiya Sangsad. The result was a landslide victory for the Awami League led by Sheikh Hasina. According to political scientist Ali Riaz, the elections were not free and fair. The BBC News reported that they were marred by violence and allegations of vote rigging. Opposition leader Kamal Hossain rejected the results, calling it "farcical" and demanding fresh elections to be held under a neutral government. 2008 Bangladeshi General Election
General elections were held in Bangladesh on 29 December 2008. The two main parties in the election were the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), led by Khaleda Zia, and the Bangladesh Awami League Party, led by Sheikh Hasina. The Bangladesh Awami League Party formed a fourteen-party Grand Alliance including Ershad's Jatiya Party, while the BNP formed a four-party alliance which included the Islamist party Jamaat-e-Islami. The election was originally scheduled for January 2007, but it was postponed by a military-controlled caretaker government for an extended period of time. The elections resulted in a landslide victory for the Awami League-led grand alliance, which won 263 seats out 300. The main rival four-party alliance received only 32 seats, with the remaining four going to independent candidates. General elections were held in Bangladesh on 3 March 1988. They were boycotted by several major parties, including the Bangladesh Awami League, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, the Communist Party of Bangladesh, Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh, the Bangladesh Krishak Sramik Awami League, the National Awami Party (Muzaffar) and the Workers Party of Bangladesh.
