Khondakar Abdul Hamid
Khondakar Abdul Hamid (1 March 1918 – 22 October 1983) was a Bangladeshi journalist and politician. He was awarded Ekushey Padak for journalism in 1977 by the Government of Bangladesh. Early life and education Hamid was born in Kasba village in Sherpur District to Khondakar Abdul Latif, a commissioner of Sherpur Municipality and Begum Amirunnesa. Hamid passed matriculation examination in 1935 from Govindapur Peace Memorial High School and IA examination from Ananda Mohan College in 1937. Then he graduated from Calcutta University in 1940. Career Hamid was assistant editor of the Daily Ittehad of Calcutta during 1946-1948 and Chairman of the Board of Editors of the '' Daily Millat'' during 1953–1956. He actively joined politics at the time of 'Jukta Front'and became the Member of the Provincial Assembly in 1954 and 1965. Sherpur District
Sherpur district ( bn, শেরপুর জেলা, ''Sherpur Jela'' also ''Sherpur Zila'') is a district in Northern Bangladesh. It is a part of Mymensingh Division. Sherpur district was a sub-division of Jamalpur District before 1984. It was upgraded to a district on February 22, 1984. Sherpur City is located about north of Dhaka, capital of Bangladesh. Etymology The name "Sherpur" can't be found in ancient history. During the rules of emperor Akbar, this area was called "Dash Kahonia Baju". The previous name of Brahmaputra river in this area was "Louhitto Sagar" which was situated in a vast area from the south border of Sherpur municipality to Jamalpur Ghat. The people of this area had to pay 10 kahon coins to the leaseholders as an annual tax for travelling in the river. ''The Daily Ittefaq'' ( bn, দৈনিক ইত্তেফাক, translit. ''Doinik Ittefak'') is a Bengali-language daily newspaper. Founded in 1953, it is the oldest newspaper, and one of the most circulated newspapers in Bangladesh. This newspaper format is broadsheet and is printed by Ittefaq Group of Publications Limited. Pre-1971 The ''Weekly Ittefaq'' was first published on December 24, 1949 by Yar Mohammad Khan, its founders and publishers and also the founders and treasurers of Bangladesh Awami League. Bengal Presidency
The Bengal Presidency, officially the Presidency of Fort William and later Bengal Province, was a subdivision of the British Empire in India. At the height of its territorial jurisdiction, it covered large parts of what is now South Asia and Southeast Asia. Bengal proper covered the ethno-linguistic region of Bengal (present-day Bangladesh and the Indian state of West Bengal). Calcutta, the city which grew around Fort William, was the capital of the Bengal Presidency.
