Kho Sin-Kie
Kho Sin-Khie (, ; September 2, 1912 – January 31, 1947) was an Indonesian-born tennis player who represented the Republic of China in the Davis Cup. He was from the Peranakan Chinese ethnic group. He was the first Chinese player ever to win a major international tournament. He won twice the British Hard Court Championships and the Surrey Grass Court Championships on one occasion. He was a Swiss, Italian and Swedish champion as well. Early years Kho was born and raised in Java to a poor family in an eggplant farm where his father, Han Ting was the head of the village. He had three brothers and three sisters. After he had been dropped out of school he started playing tennis at the age of 14, while working in a sports equipment store. In the early years he had troubles to make his father understand his admiration for the game. In 1929, he won the Central Java Tennis Championship. In 1932, his parents died. Jacques Brugnon
Jacques Marie Stanislas Jean Brugnon (11 May 1895 – 20 March 1978), nicknamed "Toto", was a French tennis player, one of the famous " Four Musketeers" from France who dominated tennis in the late 1920s and early 1930s. He was born in and died in Paris. He was primarily a doubles specialist who won 10 Grand Slam doubles titles in the French, American, Australian and British championships. Additionally he won two mixed doubles titles at Roland Garros partnering Suzanne Lenglen. He was also a fine singles player but never won a Major title. He played in 20 Wimbledon Championships between 1920 and 1948 and achieved his best singles result in 1926 when he reached the semifinals, losing in a close five set match to Howard Kinsey. Simonne Mathieu
Simonne Mathieu ( Passemard; (Spelled "Simone" in many sources.) 31 January 1908 – 7 January 1980) was a female tennis player from France, born in Neuilly-sur-Seine, Hauts-de-Seine who was active in the 1930s. During World War II, she created and led the Corps of French Volunteers in the Free French Forces. Career Mathieu is best remembered for winning two major singles titles at the French Open, French Championships (in 1938 and 1939), and for reaching the final of that tournament an additional six times, in 1929, 1932, 1933, 1935, 1936, and 1937. In those finals, she lost three times to Hilde Krahwinkel Sperling, twice to Helen Wills Moody, and once to Margaret Scriven. Vladimir Landau
Vladimir Maximilianovich Landau ( rus, Владимир Максимилиа́нович Ланда́у, p=vlɐˈdʲimʲɪr məksʲɪmʲɪlʲɪˈanəvʲɪtɕ lɐnˈdaʊ; September 24, 1971) was a Russian-born Monegasque tennis player. In 1931 he was the 14th on the French rankings, which included players of all nationality provided that they played in and represented a French sports club. Early life and family Vladimir Landau was born on March 29, 1902, in Petrograd to Maximilien Landau and Anna Herzenberg. 1934 Far Eastern Games
The 1934 Far Eastern Championship Games was the tenth edition of the regional multi-sport event, contested between China, Japan and the Philippines, and was held from 16 to 20 May in Manila, the Philippines. A total of eight sports were contested during the four-day competition. Wilbur Coen
Wilbur Franklyn Coen Jr (known also as Junior Coen, 23 December 1911 – 5 February 1998) was an American tennis player. In 1928, at age , he became the youngest tennis player to ever represent the United States in the Davis Cup, and the youngest player to ever compete in a Davis Cup match, both records he still holds. Coen also competed at Wimbledon in 1928 and 29, twice reaching the third round. In The French Championships he reached the fourth round in 1929 and 1930, and in the US Championships he reached the fourth round in 1929. Coen was mentored by Bill Tilden. Enrique Maier
Enrique 'Bubi' Maier (December 31, 1910 – August 22, 1981) was a male Spanish tennis player who was mainly active in the 1930s. Biography Maier became Wimbledon champion in the mixed doubles in 1932 when, partnered with Elizabeth Ryan, they defeated Harry Hopman and Josane Sigart in straight sets. He was the first Spanish male player to win a Wimbledon title. In that same year he also reached the quarterfinals of the singles championship, beating Frenchman Jean Borotra along the way, and losing to eventual champion Ellsworth Vines. In 1935 he competed in the mixed doubles competition at the U.S. National Championships held at the Longwood Cricket Club (Boston, Massachusetts) together with the American Sarah Palfrey.
