The Prime Minister of Lebanon, officially the President of the Council of Ministers, is the head of government and the head of the Council of Ministers of Lebanon. The Prime Minister is appointed by the president of Lebanon, with the consent of the plurality of the members of the Parliament of Lebanon (after the Taif Agreement, 1990). By convention, the office holder is always a Sunni Muslim. The current prime minister is Najib Mikati, having taken office on 10 September 2021. Émile Eddé
Émile Eddé ( ar, إميل إدّه, translit=Imīl Iddah; 5 May 1886 – 28 September 1949) was a Lebanese Maronite Christian lawyer and politician who served as the President of Lebanon for twelve days in 1943. Early life and education Eddé is a member of a family that originates from Beirut which participated in the Lebanese politics mainly during the Ma'anids and Shihabs rule. He was born in Damascus, where his father, Ibrahim Eddé, was working as a translator in the French Consulate. He attended Saint Joseph University, and moved to France to study law in Aix-en-Provence, in 1902, and graduated three years later. Because of his father's health conditions, he was forced to return to Beirut in 1909, before submitting his doctoral thesis. In 1912, he was appointed as a lawyer for the French Consulate in Beirut. Emir Khaled Chehab (September 11, 1886 – November 12, 1978) ( ar, الأمير خالد شهاب) was a Lebanese politician and the 8th Prime Minister of Lebanon, serving for two short terms. The first was between 21 March 1938 until 1 November 1938 during the rule of President Émile Eddé during the French Mandate. He was also the first Prime Minister during the rule of President Camille Chamoun for the period of September 1952 to April 1953, during which time the electoral law to guarantee women's suffrage in Lebanon was passed. He was also a Member of the Lebanese Parliament for six terms (ranging from 1922 to 1939) during the Mandate mostly representing the South.
