Khaylan Kearse-Thomas
Khaylan Kearse-Thomas (born February 7, 1997) is an American football linebacker who plays for the Stuttgart Surge of the European League of Football. He played college football at Arizona State. High school career Kearse-Thomas attended Etiwanda High School in Rancho Cucamonga, California. During his high school career with the Eagles he earned multiple honors. In addition to being named to All-League and All-CIF teams, he was also named to the All-State Second Team following his senior season. A four-star recruit, Kearse-Thomas committed to play college football for the Arizona State Sun Devils in 2015. College career Kearse-Thomas played in six games as a freshman before redshirting his sophomore season. He did not miss another game in the following three years. After initially being used mainly on special teams, he also asserted himself on defense as a senior and served as the Sun Devils' starter. Linebacker
Linebacker (LB) is a playing position in gridiron football. Linebackers are members of the defensive team, and line up three to five yards behind the line of scrimmage and the defensive linemen. They are the "middle ground" of defenders, playing closer to the line of scrimmage than the defensive backs (secondary), but farther back than the defensive linemen. As such, linebackers play a hybrid role and are often the most versatile players on the defensive side of the ball; they can be asked to play roles similar to either a defensive lineman (such as stopping the runner on a running play) or a defensive back (such as dropping back into pass coverage). How a linebacker plays their position depends on the defensive alignment, the philosophy of the coaching staff, and the particular play the offense may call.
