Khaspush
Khaspush ( hy, Խասփուշ, russian: Хас-пуш) is a 1928 Soviet Armenian drama and war film, directed by Hamo Beknazarian and starring Hrachia Nersisyan, M. Dulgaryan and Avet Avetisyan Synopsis The film is about the Persian revolutionary movement of the peasants and townspeople against the dominance of the English tobacco monopoly. Persia in 1891 is an arena of fierce clashes between foreign monopolies. In the fight between the English and the Russian capital, the victory belongs to the English monopoly. The country remains without bread. Impoverished peasants and artisans - the khaspush - raise a revolt against the foreign colonizers. Initially the uprising is led by the merchants and the clergy. The poverty-stricken citizens smash the British Embassy. At a critical moment the merchants and the clergy are remove themselves from the fight, betraying the masses. Hamo Beknazarian ( hy, Համո Բեկնազարյան; russian: Амбарцум Бек-Назаров; 19 May 1891 – 27 April 1965), also known as Hamo Bek-Nazarov or Amo Bek-Nazarian, was a Soviet Armenian film director, actor and screenwriter. Biography Hamo Beknazarian was born on 19 May 1891 in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, Russian Empire. His career in cinema started in 1914, when a casual acquaintance offered him a part in a film. Since that part, he decided to pursue a career in cinema. Between 1914 and 1918, he played about 70 parts, becoming a popular actor in pre-Revolutionary Russian film. In 1920, instead of going to Armenia as he had decided, he went to Tbilisi where he developed a film department for the Georgian Commissioner's office of Public Education. He shot many films in Tbilisi, including ''Patricide'' and ''Lost Treasures''. In 1925, he shot his first Armenian film and moved to Armenia. In 1933, he shot the first Armenian sound film '' Pepo''. Avet Avetisyan ( hy, Ավետ Ավետիսյան - March 29, 1971) was a Soviet Armenian film actor. Biography In 1905, Avetisyan was accepted to the Nersisian School, where he participated in school plays. Before leaving for the army (in 1916), Avetisyan worked in a manufacturing shop as a student and clerk. After being discharged from the military (in 1918) he joined Hovhannes Abelyan's theater company in Baku. Avetisyan's debut performance occurred in 1918 as Voskan in Alexander Shirvanzade's Evil Spirit (Char Vogi). Then, Avetisyan went to Tbilisi with Abelyan, where he performed in an Armenian drama group (1919). During 1920-1921, Avetisyan performed with the group in Karakilisa (modern Vanadzor). In 1922, Avetisyan moved to Yerevan as part of the touring theatre before being accepted to the famous Sundukyan State Academic Theatre, where he continued to write for the rest of his life. Hrachia Nersisyan ( hy, Հրաչյա Ներսիսյան, 24 November 1895 – 6 November 1961) was a Soviet-Armenian film actor. He was honoured with title of People's Artist of the USSR in 1956. Nersisyan was born in Nicomedia, Ottoman Empire (modern-day Izmit, Turkey) and studied in Constantinople. He moved to the Soviet Union in 1923, and soon became a film actor. Nersisyan's first credit was in ''Namus'', a 1925 silent movie. Later credits include ''Pepo'' (1935), ''Zangezur'' (1938) (won Stalin Prize in 1941), ''David Bek'' (1944), '' The Song of First Love'' (1958) and '' Tjvjik'' (1961). Armenfilm (russian: Арменфильм; hy, Արմենֆիլմ), also known as Hayfilm ( hy, Հայֆիլմ), is an Armenian film studio located in Yerevan. The studio was founded on 16 April 1923 as a production unit of the Soviet State Cinema Organization, with Daniel Dznuni as the first director. Armenfilm was sold by the state to private investors in 2005 with a long list of conditions to revitalize the studio's equipment and produce new content. It was renamed as CS Film Studios but failed to produce the required new feature films. In 2015, the Government of Armenia decided that the new management had failed to satisfy the conditions of the sale and moved to reclaim the studio's assets.
