Khalid Ibn Al-Walid Stadium
Khalid ibn al-Walid Stadium () is a multi-use stadium located in the Syrian city of Homs. It is the 3rd-largest football stadium in Syria and is mostly used for football matches. It serves as a home ground of Al-Karamah SC and Al-Wathba SC and holds around 32,000 spectators. History The greater part of the necropolis of Tell Abu Sabun was made to disappear by 1952 in order to build the stadium. Through the efforts of Homs city council, the ground was opened in 1960 as a simple football field to be known as Homs Municipal Stadium. The stadium was also named Jura Abou-Saboun Stadium. In 1967, a small tribune of 2,000 spectators was built to host a small number of supporters. In 1980, the capacity of the stadium was expanded to hold up to 12,000 fans, with the installation of new lighting towers. Al-Karamah SC ( ar, نادي الكرامة الرياضي) is a Syrian professional football club based in the city of Homs. Founded in 1928, it is considered to be one of Asia's oldest sporting clubs. The club has won eight Syrian League titles and eight Syrian Cup titles. It also was the first Syrian club to win both the league and cup titles in the same year. Al-Wathba Sport Club ( ar, نادي الوثبة الرياضي) is a Syrian professional football club based in Homs, that competes in the Syrian Premier League. History Al-Wathba is a professional football club based in Homs, Syria, and they are one of the oldest Syrian clubs. Al-Wathba were founded in 1937 under the name of "Al-Fedaa Club" by a number of young amateur athletes who took "Dar Al-Jodi" (located in al-Hamidiyah neighborhood in Homs), as a place to practice their sport activities. In 1953, the club obtained the license, adding football, basketball games, athletics, swimming, and cycling, and they won the Homs championship from 1963 to 1968. Tell Abu Sabun
The necropolis of Emesa, also known as the necropolis of Tell Abu Sabun, was an ancient necropolis of modern-day Homs, in Syria. Excavations begun in August 1936 uncovered a total of 22 tombs before the greater part of this necropolis was made to disappear by 1952 in order to build the municipal stadium known today as Khalid ibn al-Walid Stadium. Among the artifacts found in these tombs was the Emesa helmet. The Tomb of Sampsigeramus, of which the remains had been blown up 1911 by the Ottoman authorities so as to make room for an oil depot, had also belonged to the necropolis. According to Michaela Konrad, the nature of the artefacts unearthed in grave no. 1 allow us to date it to the beginning of the first century CE, and to assume that it belonged to a member of the ruling dynasty. Khalid Ibn Al-Walid
Khalid ibn al-Walid ibn al-Mughira al-Makhzumi (; died 642) was a 7th-century Arab military commander. He initially headed campaigns against Muhammad on behalf of the Quraysh. He later became a Muslim and spent the remainder of his career in service to Muhammad and the first two Rashidun successors: Abu Bakr and Umar.
