Khalid Mahmud Mithu
Khalid Mahmood Mithu (1960 – March 7, 2016) was a Bangladeshi film director and painter. He won Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Director for his direction of the film '' Gohine Shobdo'' (2010). Background and career Mithu was born in Dhaka in 1960. His mother, Begum Momtaz Hossain Mithu, was a ''scriptwriter''. He was the nephew of the film director Alamgir Kabir. Mithu completed his Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree from Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka in 1986. He directed his play, ''Dhusor Album'', in 1993. In 2010, he directed the film, '' Gohine Shobdo'', which earned him the national film award. His second film, ''Jonakir Alo'', was selected as the Bangladeshi entry for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 2014, but was not nominated. The University of Dhaka (also known as Dhaka University, or DU) is a public research university located in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It is the oldest university in Bangladesh. The university opened its doors to students on July 1st 1921. Currently it is the largest public research university in Bangladesh, with a student body of 46,150 and a faculty of 1,992. Dhanmondi ( bn, ধানমন্ডি) is a residential area in Dhaka, Bangladesh, known for its central location, cultural vibrancy and being home to the country's founder, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The origins of Dhanmondi can be traced back to the late 1950s, when the Government of East Pakistan developed it as a centrally planned and residential area to house the city's top bureaucrats. Etymology Dhanmondi, today's residential area, was cultivated during the British period. But at that time there were some settlements in Dhanmondi. Arjo ( am, አርጆ, om, Arjoo, also spelled Argio) is a town in Ethiopia, located in Jimma Arjo woreda, in the Misraq Welega Zone of the Oromo Region. President Mulatu Teshome was born in Arjo. Dr. Haile Fida, one of the pioneers in developing modern Afaan Oromo writing system (Qubee Afaan Oromo), was born in Arjo and attended his early education here. Kanak Chanpa Chakma (born 6 May 1963) is a Bangladeshi Chakma artist who has won national and international awards, and is renowned for her paintings depicting the lives of Bangladeshi ethnic minorities, focusing on the lives of women, and their daily lives combining semi realistic and abstract in the same frame. Biography Kanak was born in 1963 in the Rangamati Hill Tracts, in a small town named Tabal Chari, a remote hill area. She is a member of the Chakma people. Her father is a retired businessman and her mother is a textile designer and weaver who has twice won national awards for her work.
