Kha Maung Seik ( my, ခမောင်းဆိပ်) is a town in Maungdaw Township, Rakhine State, Myanmar. Rakhine State
Rakhine State (; , , ; formerly known as Arakan State) is a Administrative divisions of Myanmar, state in Myanmar (Burma). Situated on the western coast, it is bordered by Chin State to the north, Magway Region, Bago Region and Ayeyarwady Region to the east, the Bay of Bengal to the west and the Chittagong Division of Bangladesh to the northwest. Districts Of Myanmar
Districts ( my, ခရိုင်, Kharuing; ) are the second-level administrative divisions of Myanmar. They are the sub-divisions of the States and Regions of Myanmar. According to the Myanmar Information Management Unit (MIMU), as of December 2015, there are 76 districts in Myanmar, which in turn are subdivided into townships, then towns, wards and villages. The District's role is more supervisory as the Townships are the basic administrative unit of local governance. A District is led by a District Administrator, a civil servant appointed through the General Administration Department (GAD) of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MOHA). Maungdaw District
Maungdaw District ( my, မောင်တောခရိုင်) is a district of Rakhine State in western Myanmar (Burma). Its capital city is Maungdaw and the population density is about 295 persons per square kilometer. Roughly 91 percent of Maungdaw District's population is Muslim, making it the district with the highest percentage of Muslims in Myanmar. In recent history, many Muslims have fled from this region to Bangladesh. Along with parts of neighbouring Sittwe District, Maungdaw District is also informally referred to as northern Rakhine State. Maungdaw Township
Maungdaw Township ( my, မောင်တောမြို့နယ် ) is a township of Maungdaw District in Rakhine State, Myanmar (Burma). The principal town is Maungdaw. The township has a large Muslim Rohingya population, roughly 80% of the total population in 2012. Kha Maung Seik Massacre
On 25 August 2017, Hindu villages in a cluster known as Kha Maung Seik in the northern Maungdaw District of Rakhine State in Myanmar were attacked and 99 Bengali Hindu villagers were massacred by Muslim insurgents from the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA). A month later, the Myanmar Army discovered mass graves containing the corpses of 45 Hindus, most of whom were women and children. The Myanmar authorities and international investigators blamed ARSA for the deaths. ARSA has denied responsibility and rejected Amnesty's report. Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army
The Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA), formerly known as Harakah al-Yaqin ( "faith movement" in English), is a Rohingya insurgent group active in northern Rakhine State, Myanmar. According to a December 2016 report by the International Crisis Group, it is led by Ataullah abu Ammar Jununi, a Rohingya man who was born in Karachi, Pakistan, and grew up in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. Other members of its leadership include a committee of Rohingya émigrés in Saudi Arabia. Myanmar's Anti-Terrorism Central Committee declared ARSA a terrorist group on 25 August 2017 in accordance with the country's counter-terrorism law.
