Keystone was on the site of the Harriston post office which was in operation from October 12, 1883 to September 22, 1884. It is believed that it had the name Keystone from as far back as 1880 for an item in the ''Walla Walla Union'' of July 17, 1880 named it as a new “railroad town”. The Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) is a database of name and locative information about more than two million physical and cultural features throughout the United States and its territories, Antarctica, and the associated states of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, and Palau.
