Key Peninsula
The Key Peninsula ("The KP" or "The Key" to some locals) is a finger of land in Puget Sound, Washington, United States. It is approximately long and extends south from the Kitsap Peninsula. It is part of Pierce County, Washington. Some of its towns include: Wauna, Key Center, Vaughn, Home, Lakebay, and Longbranch. Its name is derived from the key-like shape of the peninsula. The Key Peninsula is in the Peninsula School District; Elementary school is provided by a number of small schools up and down the peninsula while middle school is provided by Key Peninsula Middle School. High school age children attend Peninsula High School (PHS) on the Gig Harbor Peninsula in Purdy. Case Inlet Steamboats
Case Inlet steamboats served the small communities along the shore of Case Inlet in southern Puget Sound from the 1870s to 1924. Geography Case Inlet runs in northerly direction from the Nisqually Reach and divides the Key Peninsula on the east side of the inlet from Hartstine Island and the Kitsap Peninsula on the west side of the inlet. Penrose Point State Park is a Washington state park located on Mayo Cove and Carr Inlet at the southern end of Puget Sound in Pierce County. The Washington State Park System is a set of state parks owned by the state government of Washington, USA. They are managed by the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission. There are over 140 parks throughout the state, including 19 marine parks and 11 Historical Parks. The park system was established in 1913 by the creation of the Washington State Board of Park Commissioners. The first two parks were formed from donated land in 1915, and by 1929 the state had seven parks. In 1947 the State Parks Committee was renamed to the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission and given authority to oversee the state park system. By 1960 the number of state parks had increased to 130. Purdy is a small unincorporated community and census-designated place north of the city of Gig Harbor, at the junction of Washington State Routes 16 and 302 on the northern boundary of Pierce County, Washington. It is located on the shores of Burley Lagoon and Henderson Bay, Washington of the Carr Inlet. The two bodies of water are separated by a sandspit and the Purdy Bridge, all within the Puget Sound.
