Kewaunee Nuclear Generating Station
The Kewaunee Power Station is a decommissioned nuclear power plant, located on a plot in the town of Carlton, Wisconsin, southeast of Green Bay, Wisconsin in Kewaunee County, and south of the city of Kewaunee. KPS was the third nuclear power plant built in Wisconsin, and the 44th built in the United States. Due to falling electricity prices resulting from the falling price of natural gas, the plant ceased operation May 7, 2013. Carlton, Wisconsin
Carlton is a town in Kewaunee County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,014 at the 2010 census. The unincorporated community of Norman is located in the town, and the unincorporated community of Tisch Mills is located partially in the town. The former Potawatomi village of Black Earth was located in the town until 1862. Carlton is probably named for James Carlton, an early settler in the area. Economy The Kewaunee Nuclear Generating Station is in Carlton. It was decommissioned in 2013. Geography Carlton is in the southeast corner of Kewaunee County. Point Beach Nuclear Plant is a nuclear power plant located on Lake Michigan in the town of Two Creeks, Wisconsin, United States. A pressurized water reactor (PWR) is a type of light-water reactor, light-water nuclear reactor. PWRs constitute the large majority of the world's nuclear power plants (with notable exceptions being the UK, Japan and Canada). Dry cask storage is a method of storing high-level radioactive waste, such as spent nuclear fuel that has already been cooled in the spent fuel pool for at least one year and often as much as ten years.
