Kevin Thompson (politician)
Kevin Thompson is an American politician and former enlisted member of the United States Air Force and current member of the Arizona Corporation Commission. A member of the Republican Party (United States), Republican Party, Thompson served the citizens of Mesa, AZ as Councilmember of District 6 from January 2015 to January 2023 prior to being elected to the Commission in November 2022. Personal life and education Born in West Monroe, West Monroe, Louisiana, Thompson and his family moved to Dallas, Texas, when he was a year old, and later to Euless, Texas, where he grew up. At the age of 19, Thompson joined the United States Air Force. After completing his basic training in San Antonio, Texas, he relocated to Aurora, Colorado, for technical school where he received training on the F-111 weapons platform. Arizona Corporation Commission
The Arizona Corporation Commission is the Public Utilities Commission of the State of Arizona, established by Article 15 of the Arizona Constitution. Arizona is one of only fourteen states with elected commissioners. The Arizona Constitution explicitly calls for an elected commission, as opposed to a governor-appointed commission, which is the standard in most states, because its drafters feared that governors would appoint industry-friendly officials. They are directly elected statewide and serve staggered four-year terms. Due to its separation from the executive branch, the commission is often referred to as the " fourth branch of government."
