Kevin O'Brien (rugby League)
Kevin O'Brien (born 1932) is an Australian former rugby league footballer in the 1950s. He was a premiership winning centre with the St George Dragons, made state representative appearances and toured with the Australian national side in 1956–57. Playing career O'Brien played five seasons with the St. George Dragons between 1954 and 1958. He won a premiership with St. George Dragons, playing alongside Merv Lees in the 1956 Grand Final. St George Dragons
The St. George Dragons is an Australian rugby league football club from St George District in Sydney, New South Wales that played in the top level New South Wales competition and Australian Rugby League competitions from the 1921 until the 1997 ARL season, as well as the unified 1998 National Rugby League season. On 23 September 1998, the club formed a joint venture with the Illawarra Steelers, creating the St. George Illawarra Dragons team which competed in the 1999 NRL season and continues to compete in the league today. New South Wales Rugby League Team
The New South Wales rugby league team has represented the Australian state of New South Wales in rugby league football since the sport's beginnings there in 1907. Also known as the Blues due to their sky blue jerseys, the team competes in the annual State of Origin series. This annual event is a series of three games competing for the State of Origin shield. As of 2022, the team is coached by Brad Fittler and captained by James Tedesco. Merv Lees
Mervyn John Lees (1932-2018) was an Australian professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1950s. He was a premiership-winning centre with the St George Dragons and a New South Wales rugby league team, state representative. Career Merv 'Smacka' Lees played five seasons at the St George Dragons between 1953-1958 and began his rugby league career at the Banksia, New South Wales, Banksia Waratahs R.L.F.C. as a child. He went on to win a premiership with St George Dragons, St George in 1956 NSWRFL season, 1956 under coach Norm Tipping, and also played in the 1953 NSWRFL season, 1953 grand final side that were runners up. Injuries curtailed his career, and he retired in 1959. Lees was a prolific tryscorer. Kangaroo Tour
Kangaroo Tour is the name given to Australian national rugby league team tours of Great Britain and France, tours to New Zealand and the one-off tour to Papua New Guinea (1991). The first Kangaroo Tour was in 1908. Traditionally, Kangaroo Tours took place every four years and involved a three-Test Rugby League Ashes, Ashes series against Great Britain Lions, Great Britain (sometimes called Northern Union or The Lions) and a number of tour matches. The 1911/12 and 1921/22 tours were by the Australasia rugby league team, Australasian Kangaroos as both teams included New Zealand players.
