Kevin Novak
Kevin Novak (born September 1, 1982 in Los Angeles, California) is an American soccer defender, who played two seasons for Real Salt Lake in Major League Soccer and one for the Rochester Raging Rhinos of the USL First Division. Novak grew up in southern California, attending Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana. He then attended Loyola Marymount University, majoring in finance and marketing. He played soccer at Loyola Marymount from 2000 to 2003. In four seasons he appeared in 60 matches, scoring 23 goals. He graduated in 2004. Although he missed the 2004 MLS SuperDraft due to a knee injury, he spent the year rehabilitating and training. In January 2005 he was noticed at an open tryout for Real Salt Lake of Major League Soccer. He was invited to Salt Lake's training camp and on March 28, 2005 he signed a developmental contract. Rochester New York FC, formerly known as the Rochester Rhinos, are an American professional soccer team based in Rochester, New York, United States. Founded in 1996, as the Rochester Raging Rhinos, they changed their name to Rochester Rhinos to start the 2008 season. RNY is the only non-MLS team to have won the U.S. Open Cup since the league's formation. RNY FC most recently played in the 2017 USL season in the second tier of the United States soccer league system, followed by a four-year hiatus. The 2004 MLS SuperDraft, held in Charlotte, North Carolina on January 16, 2004, was the fifth incarnation of the annual Major League Soccer SuperDraft. The draft was most notable at the time for the selection of one of the youngest athletes in American sporting history, Freddy Adu, with the first pick by D.C. United. The draft also included Clint Dempsey (1st round) and teenager Michael Bradley (4th round).
