Kevin Morgan (baseball)
Kevin Lee Morgan (born December 3, 1969) is a former Major League Baseball player and current Minnesota Twins executive. In , he had one at bat for the New York Mets, pitching hitting for Barry Manuel and popping out on the first pitch he saw in the Major Leagues; he finished the game by playing two innings in the field at third base. He formerly served as the Mets' Director of Minor League Operations. A native of Lafayette, Louisiana, Morgan attended Southeastern Louisiana University and in 1989 he played collegiate summer baseball with the Chatham A's of the Cape Cod Baseball League. A third baseman, abbreviated 3B, is the player in baseball or softball whose responsibility is to defend the area nearest to third base — the third of four bases a baserunner must touch in succession to score a run. In the scoring system used to record defensive plays, the third baseman is assigned the number 5. Third base is known as the "hot corner", because the third baseman is often the infielder who stands closest to the batter—roughly 90–120 feet away, but even closer if a bunt is expected.
