Kevin Killer
Kevin Killer (Oglala Sioux) (born May 4, 1979) is an activist, Native American politician, and former president of the Oglala Sioux Tribe. He previously served as a Democratic member of the South Dakota House of Representatives from 2009 to 2017 and the South Dakota Senate from 2017 to 2019, representing the 27th district. He lives in Pine Ridge, South Dakota. In November 2020, he was elected tribal president of the Oglala Sioux Tribe. He was defeated during his 2022 re-election bid by Frank Star Comes Out. Early life and education Killer grew up in Denver, Colorado, where his father, Francis, was a CPA and a member of the Oglala Sioux Tribe. His mother, Janice, is from the Kiowa tribe of Oklahoma. When young, Killer returned to his father's people on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation every summer, in order to know them and the land. Alicia Mousseau
Alicia Mousseau is the Vice President of the Ogallala Sioux Tribe, whose lands include the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. This is her second term in this position. She is reportedly the first lesbian to hold a position on her tribe's executive council. Early life and education Mousseau is from Porcupine, South Dakota, and her parents are Howard Brown and Karen Spoonhunter-Brown from Arapahoe, Wyoming. Mousseau earned a PhD in 2012 from the University of Wyoming in Clinical Psychology. Mousseau went to Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, graduating with a BA in psychology and political science. She has worked with the University of Montana's College of Education at their National Native Children's Trauma Center. She has also worked for the University of Colorado in their research programs. Kiowa Tribe
Kiowa () people are a Native American tribe and an indigenous people of the Great Plains of the United States. They migrated southward from western Montana into the Rocky Mountains in Colorado in the 17th and 18th centuries,Pritzker 326 and eventually into the Southern Plains by the early 19th century. The Sioux or Oceti Sakowin (; Dakota: /otʃʰeːtʰi ʃakoːwĩ/) are groups of Native American tribes and First Nations peoples in North America. Thomas Andrew Daschle ( ; born December 9, 1947) is an American politician and lobbyist who served as a United States senator from South Dakota from 1987 to 2005. A member of the Democratic Party, he became U.S. Senate Minority Leader in 1995 and later the Majority Leader in 2001.
