Kevin Braheny Fortune
Kevin Braheny Fortune (born Kevin Braheny, 1952) is an American musician. He composes and performs quiet ambient music, often more melodic than other music of this kind. Biography Kevin Braheny was on the early design team of Serge Modular, a company building modular synthesizers. He was also the chief engineer at Sound Transform Systems headed by Rex Probe. In 1977, he built his highly customized Mighty Serge, a 15-panel system that he would use on his own albums. He also built a system for Craig Huxley that he then sold to Michael Stearns. He taught Stearns how to play and customize it. Michael Stearns would later become famous for albums performed on this Serge, such as ''Planetary Unfolding'' (1981) and the soundtrack of ''Chronos'' (1984). Kevin Braheny also built prototype electronic wind instruments ( EWI) for Nyle Steiner. He also performed with his Steiner EWI on such albums as ''Western Spaces''. The EWI wind controllers are extremely versatile and expressive instrum ...

Ambient Music
Ambient music is a genre of music that emphasizes tone and atmosphere over traditional musical structure or rhythm. It may lack net composition, beat, or structured melody. The Ambient Century by Mark Prendergast, Bloomsbury, London, 2003. It uses textural layers of sound that can reward both passive and active listening and encourage a sense of calm or contemplation. The genre is said to evoke an "atmospheric", "visual",Prendergast, M. ''The Ambient Century''. 2001. Bloomsbury, USA or "unobtrusive" quality. Nature soundscapes may be included, and the sounds of acoustic instruments such as the piano, strings and flute may be emulated through a synthesizer. The genre originated in the 1960s and 1970s, when new musical instruments were being introduced to a wider market, such as the synthesizer. It was presaged by Erik Satie's furniture music and styles such as musique concrète, minimal music, and German electronic music, but was prominently named and popularized by British mu ...

Lullaby For The Hearts Of Space
''Lullaby for the Hearts of Space'' (1980) is an album by the American ambient musician Kevin Braheny. Both pieces on the album were performed live using the Mighty Serge modular analog synthesizer and were spontaneous, improvised compositions. The first track, "Lullaby for the Hearts of Space", was originally recorded for a Hearts of Space radio special at KPFA-FM in March, 1980. The second track, "After I Said Goodnight," took inspiration from Emilie Conrad-Da'Oud's work ''Continuum'' and was created live during one of her classes. Unlike Braheny's other albums, ''Lullaby for the Hearts of Space'' was not released on compact disc until 2017, reportedly because Braheny was not fond of the results. Braheny asked Hearts of Space to not release additional copies after the existing copies had sold out and the request was granted. As a result, the album has been difficult to find. The recording was remastered by Braheny Fortune, and it was released on CD and digital formats on Jun ...

New-age Musicians
New Age is a range of spiritual or religious practices and beliefs which rapidly grew in Western society during the early 1970s. Its highly eclectic and unsystematic structure makes a precise definition difficult. Although many scholars consider it a religious movement, its adherents typically see it as spiritual or as unifying Mind-Body-Spirit, and rarely use the term ''New Age'' themselves. Scholars often call it the New Age movement, although others contest this term and suggest it is better seen as a ''milieu'' or ''zeitgeist''. As a form of Western esotericism, the New Age drew heavily upon esoteric traditions such as the occultism of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, including the work of Emanuel Swedenborg and Franz Mesmer, as well as Spiritualism, New Thought, and Theosophy. More immediately, it arose from mid-twentieth century influences such as the UFO religions of the 1950s, the counterculture of the 1960s, and the Human Potential Movement. Its exact origin ...

21st-century American Composers
The 1st century was the century spanning AD 1 ( I) through AD 100 ( C) according to the Julian calendar. It is often written as the or to distinguish it from the 1st century BC (or BCE) which preceded it. The 1st century is considered part of the Classical era, epoch, or historical period. The 1st century also saw the appearance of Christianity. During this period, Europe, North Africa and the Near East fell under increasing domination by the Roman Empire, which continued expanding, most notably conquering Britain under the emperor Claudius ( AD 43). The reforms introduced by Augustus during his long reign stabilized the empire after the turmoil of the previous century's civil wars. Later in the century the Julio-Claudian dynasty, which had been founded by Augustus, came to an end with the suicide of Nero in AD 68. There followed the famous Year of Four Emperors, a brief period of civil war and instability, which was finally brought to an end by Vespasian, ninth Roman emper ...

Western Spaces
''Western Spaces'' is a collaborative album by the American ambient musicians Steve Roach and Kevin Braheny. This album is the first of Steve Roach’s many musical tributes to the Southwestern Desert. On several tracks Kevin Braheny uses his trademark sound created by playing a cello preset on his Steiner EWI (Electronic Woodwind Instrument). This album was originally released on the Innovative Communications label by Chameleon Records as a Steve Roach/Kevin Braheny/Richard Burmer album and was released later the same year on the Fortuna label as a Steve Roach/Kevin Braheny album, with Burmer's solo contributions (“A Story from the Rain” and “Across the View”) replaced by two pieces from Roach. The liner notes contain a poem by Roach's wife Linda Kohanov from which many of the song titles and perhaps the album title were derived.
